James Franco has sparked rumors he is in line to take over from Matt Damon as the lead actor in the Bourne franchise after he was spotted with director Tony Gilroy.
Damon, who has played the titled role in three Bourne films, will not appear in the upcoming fourth installment of the popular secret agent movie series, The Bourne Legacy. Gilroy recently revealed he plans to unveil "a whole new hero" in the blockbuster, but will leave the door open for Damon to return in the future.
He has now fuelled speculation his "new hero" will be Franco after they were seen in talks at a screening of the actor's new movie 127 Hours in New York on Tuesday night.
A source tells the New York Post that Gilroy "made a beeline for Franco, asking to be introduced to him."
The Bourne Legacy is due for release in 2012.
