First, director James Mangold teased X-Men fans with a six-second Vine mashup of images from this summer's surefire blockbuster The Wolverine on Monday.
On Tuesday a 20-second teaser trailer was released via MTV.
Now, after two days of whetting our appetites for the latest film in the series, the first full trailer for "The Wolverine" is finally here. And it doesn't disappoint!
After a memorable cameo in X-Men: First Class, Hugh Jackman is set to hit the big screen again as the troubled title character in the latest installment of the superhero saga. The follow-up to 2009's X-Men Origins: Wolverine sees Logan aka Wolverine struggling to cope with his powers of near-immortality after the events of X-Men: The Last Stand.
Logan is sought out by the mysterious Yukio (Rila Fukushima) and taken to her father in Japan, who reveals that he can make him mortal again.
A pair of new mutants are also introduced in the trailer -- along with an old flame.
The Silver Samurai (Will Yun Lee), whose powers enable him to use his energy to charge his katana, giving him the ability to slice through any substance (except, of course, adamantium -- which makes up Wolverine's skeleton) is set to give Wolverine a run for his money as the new bad guy. And Viper (Svetlana Khodchenkova) aka Madame Hydra also makes an appearance.
Khodchenkova is credited as playing the character, who has no actual powers but is a martial arts expert. But in the trailer she appears to be pulling off her own skin, leading us to believe she may actually be Paige Guthrie -- aka Husk -- a mutant with the ability to shed her epidermis and reveal whichever substance she wishes beneath it -- like rock or metal. She also possesses keen martial arts skills. Only time will tell if our hunch is true.
Famke Janssen, who starred in the first X-men trilogy as Jean Grey/Phoenix, also makes a cameo in the trailer.
