Summary:
The first release in Capcom's long-running franchise, Street Fighter is a primitive one-on-one fighting game that introduced many fundamental elements of the genre, including a six-button controller layout, special moves, multiple playable characters and the concept of a worldwide martial arts tournament. Ryu and Ken are the sole playable characters, with the left player taking control of Ryu and the right player taking control of Ken. Besides three types of punches and kicks, both fighters can perform fireballs, dragon punches and hurricane kicks, but these special moves are difficult to perform on a regular basis. The goal is to work your way through nine opponents in five countries to face Sagat, the reigning tournament champion. Although Street Fighter was not very successful, its sequel would go on to become one of the most popular and influential games of all time. Skyler Miller, All Game Guide
