Double Dragon (Atari Video Computer System) Reviews:
Double Dragon is an example of a very late-era !Atari VCS game that comes across as a somewhat clumsy attempt to bring to that system the fighting game genre which was the flavor of the day on the !NES and other more modern systems. Other fighting games, such as Chuck Norris Superkicks, didn't fare so well on the !Atari VCS, as its single joystick and action button forced players to resort to move-the-stick-in-a-specific-direction-and-hit-the-button-simultaneously acrobatics. Fighting games were better suited to more modern consoles whose controllers had more action buttons. As a result, Double Dragon for the !Atari VCS doesn't merely have control issues -- it has a full set of back issues and a lifetime subscription.

One has to give Activision credit for trying to release such a game for the VCS this late in the console's life span. And as well-known as Activision was for expanding the graphics palette of the VCS, Double Dragon is graphically below par -- even for that console. In the end, Double Dragon is more of a collector's item. Earl Green, All Game Guide
