Ashley & I drove to Nashville yesterday to see Joe's performance in "Broadway meets Country" last night. Joe was the second performer in Act II. He sang "Luck Be Lady." It was one of, if not the best performance I've seen from Joe! He captived the audience adding a bit of swing to his rendition of the Guys & Dolls song. Joe impressed the audience demonstrating his ability to easily expand his vocal talent & stage performance far beyond his awesome traditional country style. Mr. Nichols proved his ability to shift from traditional country artist to Broadway performer with what appeared to be no effort for this talented rising star.

Country Star Singing at Anna's Funeral March 01, 2007 Photo: Universal Records South Country singer Joe Nichols will perform at Anna Nicole Smith's funeral. Only ET is with country singer Joe Nichols this morning as he opens up about his special connection with Anna Nicole Smith. ________________________________________ ET confirms that JOE NICHOLS will perform at ANNA NICOLE SMITH's funeral tomorrow. Anna's partner HOWARD K. STERN specifically asked the country singer to perform for the occasion. At Howard's request, Nichols will sing his hit, "I'll Wait for You," and DOLLY PARTON's "Wings of a Dove," which is said to be Anna's favorite country song of all time. Nichols has a special connection with Anna -- the two met at the Grand Ole Opry back in 2005. "I met Anna Nicole at the Opry in 2005 when she came backstage following the show," he tells ET. "I remember she had a dynamic personality, and her love of traditional country music was evident." Nichols says he was honored to be asked to perform at the funeral. "It's been an emotional time for the family with the recent death of her son, followed by her own sudden death," he says. "I hope to bring some comfort through music to the people who were closest to her during this sad time." http://www.etonline.com/celebrities/news/47232/

December 27, 2006 Cancer sign symptom throat
There is no known cure for breast cancer. More than 1.5 million people will be diagnosed with breast cancer this year worldwide. The incidence of breast cancer has nearly tripled in the past 50 years. A woman’s lifetime risk has increased from 1 in 20 in the 1950’s to 1 in 7 today. Scientists don’t know why most women get breast cancer, yet breast cancer is the most frequent tumor found in women the world over. What can a woman do when fate has played a cruel joke and a woman’s very life can be in question? What do you do when an intimate part of your body becomes host to an assassin, a foreign element assigned to debilitate, maim and kill?
A woman who dies of breast cancer is robbed of an average of nearly 20 years of her life. Breast cancer knows no social boundaries. Its a disease that can affect anyone.
Despite over a decade of research, and more than $1.7 billion spent, hundreds of women worldwide are dying from breast cancer every day. Yet doctors don’t know how breast cancer starts or how to cure it. Doctors are still approaching treatment for breast cancer in the same old fashioned ways: surgery, radiation, and chemotherapy. Barbaric treatments and scientists keep doing the same old redundant research that’s simply not working.
Over 30 US federal agencies and dozens of foundations, pharmaceutical and biotech companies are conducting or funding research, but: No one knows how much money is being raised every year. No one knows how much money is being spent every year. No one knows where the money is going. Meanwhile, mothers, sisters and daughters are dying-at a rate of nearly 110 women a day. Its time for a new approach to cure this deadly killer. We don’t want you to have to under go surgery, radiation or chemotherapy.
A global action is the only answer to rising cancer deaths. Someone needs to answer the action call on all types of cancer. Newly formed International Celebrity Cancer Research Foundation has answered that call on global cancer. ICCRFs war on cancer will be fought with the power of fame with celebrities from all 192 countries of the world. But the war on cancer can only be won with the support from the citizens of the world. Each and every one of you can answer your personal call to action to help fight the global war on cancer by supporting ICCRFs battle on the war on cancer now.
Country music stars who support breast cancer research include: Wynona Judd, Amy Grant, Donny Osmond, Martina McBride, Kenny Chesney, Shania Twain, Tim McGraw, Reba McEntire, George Strait, Toby Keith, LeAnn Rimes, the Dixie Chicks, Lonestar, Brad Paisley, Diamond Rio, Trick Pony, Alan Jackson, SHeDAISY, Terri Clark, Lee Ann Womack, Phil Vassar, Buddy Jewell, Joe Nichols, Amy Grant, Anne Murray, Vince Gill, Randy Travis, Tracy Lawrence, Tammy Cochran, Billy Ray Cyrus, Lee Greenwood, George Jones, Rascal Flatts, Emerson Drive, Bering Strait, Brooks & Dunn, Clint Black, Steve Wariner, Kenny Rogers, Alabama, Faith Hill and Sara Evans, Richard Marx, Anne Cochran, Lee Ann Womack, Terri Clark, Dave Koz, Sophie B. Hawkins, Jonatha Brooke, Hearts Anne and Nancy Wilson and Mercy Me.

HOT DISH: A Christmas Kiss From Kix Brooks Country Stars Celebrating the Holidays in and Around Nashville By: Hazel Smith Mon. December 25.2006 6:01 AM EST (CMT Hot Dish is a weekly feature written by veteran columnist Hazel Smith. Author of the cookbook, Hazel's Hot Dish: Cookin' With Country Stars, she also shares her recipes at CMT.com.)
Joe Nichols Comes to My House Rogers, Ark., native Joe Nichols still wears shirts emblazoned with the Arkansas Razorbacks logo. He knows when the house smells like his grandma's kitchen. And he's nice and handsome and has all the makings of a superstar. Maybe 2007 will be his year.
Joe came to my house and taped a guest spot for CMT's Southern Fried Flicks With Hazel Smith, and we had a big ol' time. I learned he prefers home cooking such as chicken pie, which I made along with a whole bevy of down-home fixings. I didn't get around to asking if he went to college. If he did, he didn't get enough education to ruin his country manners or his country singing.
Joe resides on 40 acres. His uncle looks after things for him, and Joe will work anytime anybody gives him an offer. Let's not forget his sense of humor. He said, "I've got a bottle of tequila in the car for you, Hazel." In light of Joe's hit titled "Tequila Makes Her Clothes Fall Off, " I found that very funny.

New SESAC leader spearheads explosion in organization’s impact By Ron Wynn, rwynn@nashvillecitypaper.comJanuary 02, 2007 It’s been around more than 75 years and is the only one of America’s three performing rights organizations whose national headquarters is in Nashville. Yet many people aren’t completely familiar with SESAC, despite the fact its impact and name recognition has expanded and increased under the leadership of new President and Chief Operating Officer Pat Collins. And though smaller than either BMI or ASCAP, SESAC has forged its own place in the music community. “One thing we’ve done through educational programs, seminars and other special events is really explain to the public, particularly the songwriting and musicians’ community, exactly what SESAC can do for them, ” Collins explained. “It’s not uncommon for those who aren’t aware of how a performing rights organization works to confuse us with a music publishing company. We represent songwriters and publishers, and work to ensure their right to be properly compensated for having their music performed in public is protected. SESAC works in many areas, especially television and radio station, but we also monitor usage in everything from malls and hotels to theme parks and auditoriums.” When it began in 1930, SESAC’s primary clientele worked in either gospel or European concert music. The original name was the Society of European Stage Authors and Composers, and the company was founded in part to serve European composers not adequately represented in the United States. It was later shortened to its current title. Today, the organization’s clients range from R&B and urban performers to jazz, contemporary Christian, dance, rock, various types of Latin music, and both film and television. The Nashville headquarters houses all the divisions from creative to licensing to administration. SESAC also has offices in New York, Los Angeles and London, and it recently established a new office in Atlanta to better maximize its effectiveness within that city’s red-hot rap and urban world. SESAC has approximately 5, 000 songwriter affiliates and 4, 000 publisher affiliates, a number that differentiates it from the vast rosters at BMI and ASCAP. “One area where we are different from other performing rights companies is that we have a selective process by which songwriters and publishers can become affiliated, ” Collins said. “Submissions are reviewed by a writer/publisher relations staff, and we take pride in building a roster where quality is emphasized as opposed to quantity.” Collins added that the specificity of SESAC prevents clients from having to sift through copyrights that aren’t used very often, and that the individual relationships the organization develops with songwriters and publishers are also critical to its growth. SESAC has been closely following industry innovations, particularly iPods and satellite radio, and Collins says the organization largely consider these items positive developments. SESAC was the first performing rights organization to embrace Broadcast Data Systems technology in the mid-’90s, something that Collins views as a critical development in further expanding the entity’s profile. “By being the first [performing rights organization] to employ Broadcast Data Systems (BDS) performance detection technology, it enabled us to provide our clients with both fast and accurate royalty payment information, ” Collins said. “We are always concerned about illegal downloading, but there are now many online sites where we can get accurate information about songs being played, “ he continued. “We’re not focusing so much on individual people who may or may not be downloading songs illegally, although we certainly are concerned about anything that may negatively affect the ability of our clients to be fairly compensated. We’re more concerned with the television and radio industry, and places where you go out to eat and hear music being played. I think the overall problem of downloading is one that will continue to be addressed throughout the industry and watched very closely, and I think that the public is becoming more aware and better educated all the time about the situation.” Collins said satellite radio companies have been helpful in working with SESAC. “They have worked with us since their inception, and we’re quite pleased about their responsible attitude in terms of licensing and copyright enforcement and infringement issues, ” he said. Some current and/or classic songs that fans might represent in the SESAC arsenal include “I’ll Fly Away, ” Kenny Chesney’s “Young” and Lonestar’s “Mr. Mom.” The list of performers who’ve done SEASC-affiliated songs is an impressive one, with such names as Bob Dylan, Mary J. Blige, Eric Clapton, U2, Jimi Hendrix, Luciano Pavarotti and Neil Diamond, among thousands of other artists. Contemporary country stars who’ve recorded SESAC cuts also include Joe Nichols Reba McEntire, Toby Keith and Darryl Worley. “We also encourage songwriters to contact us, ” Collins continued. “SESAC will continue to be very aggressive in working on behalf of songwriters and music publishers and continue the policy of strategic catalog acquisition, individual affiliate relationships and steady, controlled growth.”

The answer to when Joe will be a guest on Hazel Smith's Southern Fried Flicks on CMT...
HOT DISH: John Rich's Bird's Eye View of Nashville Hillbilly Big Bucks Can Pay for Bigger and Richer Accomodations
By: Hazel Smith
A Final Note for the Week Since I write my weekly column, CMT Hot Dish for this Web site, host Southern Fried Flicks for CMT and am now a judge on the new program, Karaoke-Dokey, one of my friends, Tony Conway, is beginning to refer to me as "Ms. CMT."
Tune in Sunday (Jan. 21) at 8 p.m. ET for Southern Fried Flicks with guest Joe Nichols. Look for Karaoke-Dokey's debut in March to see the Dolly Parton lookalikes judged by the ever wonderful Craig Morgan, the very beautiful Tiffany Fallon (aka Mrs. Joe Don Rooney) and yours truly.

Joe Nichols' fall release of his latest work!!! Below is a line quoted from the CMT article about the release of Joe's next album. Even though I'm anxious to hear the music Joe has selected for his next album, the planned fall release leaves plenty of time for Joe to release additional singles from his album III, which was release in Oct 2005. "Universal South is planning the fall release of Joe Nichols' latest work." For the full article on additional upcoming artist release dates see link below. http://www.cmt.com/news/articles/1550177/20070117/mcgraw_tim.jhtml?headlines=true

Nichols at gala With a distinctive, deep voice, Joe Nichols has a number of hits under his belt — including his smash debut "Man With a Memory" — and another on the way, the Top 20 "I'll Wait for You." Nichols will be the headline entertainer, along with San Antonio's genre-benders Rick Cavender and Wayne Harper of the Martini Club, at the 30th anniversary of the Go Western Gala. And there's more big news for the gala, the traditional big bash leading up to the San Antonio Stock Show & Rodeo Feb. 1-18. Like the rodeo, after a long run at the Freeman Coliseum, the gala will head next door to the AT&T Center at 6:30 p.m. Saturday. "I grew up going to the rodeo in the Freeman, so for me personally it is very sad, " gala committee chairman Rita Stich said. "But change is a good thing, and moving to the AT&T Center will take it to another level. "Nothing like this, a big catered party with live bands and all, has ever been held in the AT&T Center." Like at the coliseum, the artists will perform on the round, rotating stage on the floor with a small group of tables surrounding it, and they're already sold out. But, because the AT&T Center's floor won't accommodate as many tables as the coliseum, reserved seats in the lower bowl will be sold instead, at $100 instead of the previous table price of $150. Don Strange once again will cater the gala, with endless food and drink served in the Saddles and Spurs Club as well as by the dance floor near the chutes. The move was prompted by the uncertainty over the coliseum's future as well as concern over the cost of rebuilding the platforms for box seats specially constructed for the gala, Stich said. "We hope everybody goes in thinking this is a great, new place and a new party with the same traditions of having fun while raising money for the rodeo scholarships, " she said. Tickets will be sold at the rodeo box office until 2 p.m. Saturday. Call (210) 225-5851.
