Oooooph. this is a doozy!
I really enjoy the work or both immensly. I'm not going to say one is "better" than the other. Both are incredible innovators and have an extremely distinct style.
But if you forced me to choose just one to listen to for the rest of my life, I'd go with Les by a narrow margin.
BTW, I'm crossing my fingers for an Oysterhead reunion!

Selling out is sweet because when you sell out, you get to make a lot of money, and when you have money, you don't have to hang out with a bunch of poor asses like you guys. Screw you guys, I'm going home.

Man I can't choose. Both are unbeleivable. I have some bella fleck and some of victors solo stuff. He is amazing, but Les has somthing that I can't describe. He turn the bass into something other than a guitar. If you like heavy music and bass guitar, check out mudvaynes bassist Ryan Martini. He is going to be phenominal.

I'm going to go with Les Claypool on this one. I like his style- it's very distinct. And Primus is awesome, he can tear it up. Jerry was a racecar driver...

ummm yea les i cool and everything, but when it comes to sheer musicianship, and sound, not to mention little things us music fans take for granted like note selection and tone, victor wooten is the king of...sorry primus fans but i dont see claypool teaching bass seminars at berklee...

That's a tough one. I've got to go with Les though. He is so unique. Victor is great technically, but I gotta go with Les.

Skillwise, Victor Wooten is better
Style, that's all really opinion
The thing is, as a Bassist, I see and hear what Les Claypool is doing... To me, I go like, wow, that's pretty cool. When I listen and see what Victor Wooten is doing, I damn near #@$%#$ myself... His music is saying I will never be that good and I should give up on life.
Les Claypool can play chords in a rythemic manner, which is cool cause he was a pretty good influence and stuff. He's creative and all, but he's not like my man Vic who can make up this stuff on the spot.
Victor Wooten can play chords with rythme, while slapping, tapping, and hitting harmonics. You have to listen to every single detail to understand just how great he is like how he's playing parts in a good way and keeping a nice bassline along with it. He also won Bassist of the Year 3 times as well, and he's the first to ever win it more then once.

I don't know much but I hear that Wooten is one of the best and is a very good musician. Thing is though, even though he is great at note selection and those other things that have been said I just don't find his music nearly as enjoyable as Claypool's. I don't know how much this applies to Wooten because he is very much into music as a spiritual thing, but there are people that are very good technique-wise but lose the fun part of it along the way. Some of his songs are good but Claypool's style is more enjoyable.
