"Report to Moderator" links...

FYI (especially newbies)...

When you click on the “Report to Moderator” link in the forum, you are NOT sending a message to the person who wrote that post.  You are informing the Forum Moderators that there is a problem with that thread.  If you want to send a personal message to the author of a post, you need to click on the little “IM” icon under their name and forum information to the left of the post.  That will contact them directly.  Otherwise you are just sending the moderators a message that is meant for someone else and they will not get it.

A lot of people are confusing this and a lot of people are sending some really profane messages to the moderators, but intended for the person who post's "Report to Moderator" link was clicked.  Therefore, we've been automatically deleting those accounts without prejudice.

Not that it's okay to send nasty messages to fellow members.  We frown upon that also and would expect members to let us know if someone's harrassing them.

If you want to share your fan site with everyone, submit your info here: http://www.starpulse.com/help/link.html.  Don't include links to it in the forum.  Also, we'd appreciate a link back from your site also (especially with one of our custom banners).  Link Exchanging makes everyone happy and your site will be listed in the page for the corresponding artist.  When someone looks up info on that artist, your site will be one of the options for them to check out.

Mods don't care for links to other forums in message bodies or in signatures.  Don't be surprised if all of a sudden they disappear.  Advertise somewhere else.

There is a thread with a little "How To" about putting pictures in your posts and signatures, and uploading avatars.  Don't make threads asking for help on this topic.  Find the topic or use the help button in the navigator above.

Properly title your threads
Make sure that the subject of your post includes the name of the topic and a quick description -- not stuff like "help!" or "Boys."  Topics with vague titles won't be here tomorrow.  Also, a one or two word post as the first post under a vague topic you start isn't enough.  Start the discussion with a discussion, not the word "discuss."  These won't be here long either.

The forum has been here for almost a year now, so starting a Jesse McCartney topic is pointless.  We've already got one or two.  Starting duplicate topics is annoying because then we have to go and combine the one you start with the one we already have, and believe me, it's a lot easier to delete your "new" version of a topic than it is to locate the one we already have and then go through the motions to combine the two.  There are multiple PAGES in each Forum Topic.  Chances are, if you don't see it on the first page it's still out there somewhere.

Try to cut the pictures from quoting someone.  Having the same picture load several times on the same page is annoying.  It creates more unnecessary pages in the thread and those who aren't on a high speed connection have to wait for each one to load.  Simply delete the picture URL from inside the quote when you go to post.

Avoid posting images from Angelfire and Tripod.  Neither of them like it when you do, and a short time after you hotlink to their images they find out and you get a nice little "hosted by tripod" message in your image's place.

Large images that create horizontal scroll bars will be removed.  So will any continuous text or smileys that cause a horizontal scroll bar.  (i.e. "Jesse McCartney is soooooooooo hot!!!!!!!!!(<-- continues on with about 100 exclamation marks).  The same goes for signatures.  If you show a scroll bar in your sig, re-edit it and get whatever's causing it out, otherwise the entire sig will be deleted by a mod.

Do not hotlink
Linking to images hosted on someone else’s website is not allowed, unless the server that is hosting the image is your own. Instead, save the image to your computer and re-host it on an image hosting site.

Do not send offensive images or messages through PMs; No links to nudity, retail sites, or auction sites.

Do not have a huge signature
Sigs should not be greater than 100 pixels.  If your sig itself is too large and taking up too much space, it mayl be removed by a moderator.

Do not send your personal thoughts to the moderators via the "Report to Moderator" link.

Explicit Language
Profanity is not allowed, nor are personal attacks based on race, religion or sexual orientation; or explicit descriptions of sexual acts.

Do not TROLL
Attempting to be as annoying as possible while staying within the forum rules is not the way to go about getting attention. There's a thin line between being annoying and being funny. Those who cross it - whether through a lack of familiarity with the forums, signing up with multiple names, or as sad, twisted, bid for attention - will be banned.

If you PREVIEW your posts it will help you to learn how to use the formatting tags instead of resulting in a post that looks like this:

Topics worded like this (i.e. low/cap/low/cap/low/cap) will be deleted.  They won't even be given consideration for a merge.  Just deleted.

It's freakin' annoying.

"HI I'M NEW HERE" TOPICS WILL BE MERGED INTO THE 'NEW TO THE FORUMS' THREAD...

SO DON'T START ONE IF YOU'RE NEW HERE.  GO POST IN THAT THREAD.

Thanks.

Don't start threads about yourself.  Whether it's to tell us all that you have 3 other screen names, or to tell us all that you're deleting your account (this one's just stupid.  It's not like we have sensitive information or anything.  It looks better if you just leave it.  Not to mention the 50 people who deleted theirs already and came back again as someone else.  You can change your screen name at any time, you know).

We delete them as soon as we see them.

And when you delete yourself, it's easy to tell that you did that, just by looking at your posts.

1.  Make sure you spell the name of the person/band/videogame/etc. correctly.  Your topic will most likely get deleted if you misspell.

2.  Use the Search Box near the top of the page to do a search or two for the topic you're thinking of starting.  The Starpulse forum's over a year old now, and pretty much all of the popular music/celebrity topics have already been started.  When you start a duplicate we will either merge it with the existing topic or just delete it.  Since deleting it is easier, we pretty much do that most of the time.

3.  Don't start topics about specific band members unless they have a solo album/career of their own.  These topics suffer the same fate as those in guideline #2.
