So basically you're saying that pulling a "Prince" a record FOUR TIMES isn't an embarassment? I never said there was anything wrong with his music. Frankly, I've never listened to it except for that one complete RIP-OFF of Led Zeppelin's Kashmir. On a personal, Puffy the man standpoint, yes, I think he's perhaps a great businessman, but as far as a public persona goes, yes, he is a complete idiot. You don't hold press conferences to tell the world that you want people to start referring to you as something else. Prince tried it, but the internet wasn't around at the time, so we couldn't really publicly make fun of him for it. Not that they'd have that symbol to type back then anyway. Point is, Puffy or Diddy or Daddy or whatever should have taken a cue from John "John Cougar, John Cougar Mellencamp, John Mellencamp" Mellencamp and just changed his name on different album releases without telling everyone they were to now refer to him as some stupid symbol he doodled on a cocktail napkin when he was drunk one night. At least back in the 70s/80s Mellencamp had enough talent so that he was known enough for his music, which made it not matter that he changed his name for each release. Or should I say, used a different "version" of his name on certain albums he put out. We all still knew it was Mellencamp. He didn't have to get Entertainment Tonight and Access Hollywood and a bunch of people who could care less at the end of the day together in some pretentious ballroom in New York to basically say "I'm just Diddy now, have a nice day." For that, yes, he is a complete idiot. Maybe he should have just; oh, I don't know, put out another album with the name on it a little different or something? But no, since he clearly does not possess the talent to make any worthwhile music he couldn't do that. I'm sure he rocks as a producer or businessman, but how many other producers or businessman have done anything this absurd? You don't see Richard Branson holding a press conference to have everyone start calling him "@#$@" do you? Or maybe Donald Trump will hold one and have everyone star calling him "Dollars Donnie." Maybe Suge Knight will have everyone start calling him Kenny now and have a press conference to announce it instead of just putting that name on the back of whichever album he produces next and shut up about it. Diddy's little press conference was obviously a cry for attention, since he hasn't gotten much lately because now he's a fashion designer and his stuff isn't really doing that well because usually fashion designers design stuff that wasn't already designed before, therefore there's no real big buzz over his stuff. He needed the press and since everyone just calls him "Diddy" anyway he felt the need to convey that message to us all. Like there's a close friend of his who was calling him "P. Diddy" all the time. "Hey P. Diddy, could you pass the salt? Thanks, P. Diddy." "Hey P. Diddy did you see that new movie?" "Aww, it was great P. Diddy." ring-ring "Hi is P. Diddy there?" Perhaps I'm showing my age, but yes, indeed he does look like an idiot. How about growing some nuts and using your real name Sean Combs? Or are you ashamed of it? Let your friends call you by your nickname, that's what normal people do. If I called all my friends and said "I'm now going to be known as [insert nickname here]" they'd laugh at me. Which is what I'm doing at Puff Daddy Diddy P etc. |
