Anyone Here Been to Greece or Italy?
« on: August 10, 2005, 10:14:51 pm »

Or are you from there? I would like to know more about Greece & Italy. I've always wanted to visit Italy seeing as how I'm so enthralled with Italians  Wink  & it seems Greeks are a bit similar, especially in the 'handsome' dept! So what can you tell me about the land & it's people & their customs?

I went to Italy when I was little so I really don't remember it.. oh I remember one thing, my aunt wanted to buy oranges and when she felt an orange to see if it was squishy or not the person selling the oranges wanted her to buy the orange and they got into a fight.  Tongue Thats all I remember really.. oh and lots of water. Smiley Sorry I can't help further.

I was in Italy when I was younger, it's beautiful. Try to see the Lake Grotto on Lake Capri if you can - northern Italy is more beautiful than the south, worth spending time in the smaller spots.

Funny I've been to both Italy and Greece. I went to Greece for a World Kickboxing Tournament and Italy just for sight seeing since it was close around and was something worth visiting at that time.

I went to Italy last year. Really nice. I didn't want to go at first then my dad mentioned shopping!

We stayed near Florance and it was really beautiful and idyllic.

The best part was the Gucci store and Miss Sixty! Wink

I'd like to know about the people. Friendly? Provocative? Clannish? Leery of Americans?  Huh

Seems you're worried about the US part of it. Can't help you there, except to say I found them all very friendly, but unscrupulous when it comes to prices, but they're open to haggling and bargaining. I did have a ticket salesperson try and overcharge me (he thought he could make a quick buck). He got a little pissed off and called his manager, whom I told in broken italian that I knew what his guy was doing. I got the ticket to my next stop on the house.

Don't know what you mean about being worried about the US part of...what?  Huh

Good for you that you got your ticket for free! Good thing you used your 'broken Italian'!
It sure came in handy for ya!  Wink

One or two things I can remember - bartering hasnot died in most parts of Italy, and they will barter with women gladly (they just love women). Watch out for ticket sellers tho, they'll try and crook you by stating other prices, watch out for that.
Apart from that, catch a gondola and enjoy the ride, or go see the abovementioned cave.

Italy is one of those places that is stunniong from top to bottom.

Grim visited Italy when he was a young lad and remembers very little about the experience other than the fact that authentic pizza pies are absolutely delicious-not like these inspid flour cakes peddled here in many U.S. pizzerias. Greece is still on the travel itinery and therefore that review is pending...
