Warner Bros. and Legendary Pictures have revealed the first teaser trailer for the latest take on legendary Japanese movie monster Godzilla -- and it looks very promising.

The teaser starts with David Strathairn as a military commander sending troops parachuting out of a plane over a burning San Francisco to confront the Kaiju as it wreaks havic across the city.

As they drop in from above, one soldier's viewpoint is given and features lots of nervous breathing until a brief glimpse of the monster is seen.

The trailer then cuts to shots of the A-list cast, including Bryan Cranston, Elizabeth Olsen, Ken Watanabe, Aaron Johnson and Juliette Binoche.

Finally, the camera pans up as Olsen looks on in horror, revealing the beast within a cloud of dust and debris. Based on Ishiro Honda's 1954 design of the cult movie monster, the spikes on Godzilla's back first appear before he turns and lets out an ear-piercing screech.

"Godzilla" hits theaters May 16, 2014. Check out the trailer below...
