When Concord Records founder Carl Jefferson created the Concord Picante imprint in 1980, he wanted to provide a much-needed home for such seminal, and then under-appreciated, Latin jazz musicians as Cal Tjader - who released the label's first album, the Grammy® winning La Onda Va Bien. The rhythm-and-percussion rich music that Picante produced caught fire and helped to popularize Latin jazz. And, over time, the feisty label grew from the role of an industry underdog to master of its universe, the undisputed King of Latin music.

With Explorations: Classic Picante Regrooved, a new generation will be introduced to the depth and wealth of the Picante catalog. The CD is a 13-track collection of some of the label's greatest hits, as well as more obscure tracks, all treated to hip new remixes.

Over the years, Picante has been home to such legendary figures as Tito Puente, Mongo Santamaria, Ray Barretto, Eddie Palmieri, and Charlie Byrd among them. On Regrooved, these artists and other Picante icons like Poncho Sanchez, Jorge Dalto, Pete Escovedo, and Tania Maria are given the remix treatment from DJs who rank as some of the best and most respected in the world, such as Dan The Automator, Thievery Corporation, Cut Chemist, Ozomatli, and more.
