Elton John's Husband David Furnish Slams Madonna
Film producer David Furnish was left fuming after Madonna beat out his partner Elton John to win the Best Original Song trophy at the Golden Globe Awards on Sunday, insisting her win proved voting isn't based on "merit".
Elton and the Like a Virgin hit-maker engaged in a friendly war of words on the red carpet ahead of the ceremony after the Rocket Man singer told reporters his one-time pop pal didn't have "a f**king chance of winning."
Madonna hit back by asking journalists if Elton was "wearing a dress."
The Material Girl eventually emerged triumphant as her track Masterpiece from W.E. scooped up the award, and she joked about the red carpet feud backstage, stating, "I hope he speaks to me for the next couple of years. He's known to get mad at me. He's brilliant and I adore him, so he will win another award. And I don't feel bad!"
However, Madonna's comments merely enraged Furnish, who took to Facebook.com to vent his fury about the singer's win.
He raged, "Madonna. Best song???? F**k off!!! Madonna winning Best Original Song truly shows how these awards have nothing to do with merit."
He also took offense to her Golden Globes acceptance speech, calling it "embarrassing in it's (sic) narcissism."
The Your Song hit-maker was nominated for Hello Hello, which was featured in Gnomeo & Juliet.
