Ellen DeGeneres To Host Oscars For Second Time In 2014
Ellen DeGeneres has confirmed that she'll be returning to host the Oscars for a second time in 2014.
The comedienne, who last hosted the 79th Academy Awards in 2007, tweeted the news on Friday, writing, "It's official: I'm hosting the #Oscars! I'd like to thank @TheAcademy, my wife Portia and, oh dear, there goes the orchestra."
"We are thrilled to have Ellen DeGeneres host the Oscars," producers of the 2014 awards show Craig Zadan and Neil Meron said in a statement. "As a longtime friend, we had always hoped to find a project for us to do together and nothing could be more exciting than teaming up to do the Oscars.
"There are few stars today who have Ellen's gift for comedy, with her great warmth and humanity. She is beloved everywhere and we expect that the audience at the Dolby Theatre, and in homes around the globe, will be as excited by this news as we are."
The last time DeGeneres hosted the show she received a Primetime Emmy nomination for Outstanding Individual Performance in a Variety or Music Program. Martin Scorsese's "The Departed" won Best Picture that year.
"I am so excited to be hosting the Oscars for the second time. You know what they say - the third time's the charm," Ellen joked after the announcement.
The event takes place on Sunday, March 2, 2014 at the Dolby Theater in Hollywood, California.
