DVD Review: 'Red Clover'
Not all leprechauns are cute and cuddly! That’s why were checking out the new to DVD flick "Red Clover" out now from Lionsgate Home Entertainment. Follow the gold and blood covered review below!
Title: "Red Clover"
Grade: 2 1/2
Cast: Billy Zane, William Devane, Courtney Halverson
Director: Drew Daywalt
Runtime: 89 minutes
Release Company: Lionsgate Home Entertainment
The Flick: "Red Clover" isn’t brilliant genre fare, but it’s also not trying to reinvent the wheel. And for what it is the film does have a lot of cool conventions like savory actors (Billy Zane and William Devane as...father and son!), decent 'old school' man in leprechaun monster suit stuff and a female heroine that’s both hot and tough. Problem is the film is so far fetched, so loopy and so full of plot holes and bad edits (lead gal Courtney Halverson gets over various deaths pretty quick here!) that even as a tongue in check flick it’s asking a lot of the audience. Light, fluff Syfy Channel work, this one only raises the bar slightly.
Best Feature: The only feature – an audio 'Commentary' – is a total pucker fest where everyone is wonderful and all is well. (Aka not a great listen!)
Best Hidden Gem: Not only is Zane as funny and biting as he was in the underrated "Demon Knight," but his final scene steals the show!
Worth the Moola: One of those flicks that is decent to rent when all other top-notch horror flicks have been rented out for Halloween.
