Rapper Drake is set to host sports network ESPN's 2014 ESPY Awards ceremony in July.

The Canadian star and avid sports fan made the announcement on his Twitter page Wednesday, writing, " Honored to be this year's @ESPYS host @espn 7.16.2014."

The ceremony will honor the cream of the crop from the sporting world in July 16 from the Nokia Theater in Los Angeles. The event is held each year the day after the Major League Baseball All-Star Game -- one of only two dates during the calendar year during which none of the four major sports -- baseball, football, basketball and hockey -- are in action.

The other date is the day before the All-Star Game.

ESPN also tweeted the news, using the rapper's hit single "Started from the Bottom" in their clever message.

"Started from the bottom, now ... @Drake's HOSTING THE 2014 ESPYS! RT (re-tweet) if you're excited to see him take the stage."

The Canadian is a big basketball fan and serves as an ambassador for the National Basketball Association's (NBA) Toronto Raptors basketball team.
