The Adolf Hitler drama Downfall won the BBC Four World Cinema Award last night. In the chilling drama, German filmmaker Oliver Hirschbiegel recreates the final days of the Nazi dictator in his Berlin bunker before he shot himself and mistress Eva Braun as Allied forces closed in on his stronghold in 1945.

BBC Four (British digital TV channel) controller Janice Hadlow described Downfall as "extraordinary and brave". Hirschbiegel is currently working on thriller "The Visiting" which stars Nicole Kidman and Daniel Craig.
