Chris Evans has backed off from statements he made in a recent Variety interview, saying that he has no plans on retiring from acting.

Last week Evans made headlines for telling the magazine, "If I'm acting at all, it's going to be under Marvel contract, or I'm going to be directing. I can't see myself pursuing acting strictly outside of what I’m contractually obligated to do."

Today on Good Morning America, Evans said those statements were taken out of context, explaining, "By no means am I planning on retiring. It’s kind of a silly statement."

However he went on to add, “I certainly am going to try to focus a bit more on [directing] at this point.”

Perhaps Evans should have just said he was going to be extremely selective with his roles from now on.
