The remake of 1984 dance classic Footloose has been thrown into jeopardy after lead actor Chace Crawford quit the project.
The Gossip Girl star signed up to play the part made famous by Kevin Bacon in the film after Zac Efron pulled out last year. The 24 year old underwent months of rigorous dance rehearsals to master the complicated routines, revealing, "I'm going to need the whole nine months to really get to where I need to be. I have some movement and I'm really happy to learn a lot of new stuff."
However, Crawford's rep has now told EW.com that the heart-throb is quitting the film - just as shooting was set to commence. No reason was given for his sudden departure, but sources tell the website that the star's filming schedule for Gossip Girl clashed with the Footloose shoot.
The movie also lost its original director last year when Kenny Ortega pulled out of the production.
