David Selznick is regarded as one of Hollywood's legendary figures.

Selznick had a great career at Paramount and MGM broke away to form "Selznick International Pictures" which was independently financed and released thru UA. Selznick was known as a perfectionist and guided films such as David Copperfield, Dinner At Eight, Anna Karennia, Nothing Sacred, and his two greatest movies Rebecca, and Gone With The Wind (thru MGM) -both Oscar winners.

Selznick's meticulous production of "Gone With The Wind" with Clark Gable, Olivia De Havilland, Leslie Howard and Vivien Leigh as Scarlett that made Her Hollywood's greatest female star at the time (other than Garbo and Bette Davis) is part of film history.

Selznick was a star maker and groomed the careers of Ms Leigh, Joan Fontaine, Gregory Peck, Ingrid Bergman, and his great love Jennifer Jones to stardom. No story re Selznick is complete without the love story of Ms Jones and Selznick who adored the edgy, intense, intelligent beautiful Jennifer and together they made 'Since You Went Away' "Duel In the Sun" "Portrait of Jennie" and "A Farewell To Arms". John Huston in his book said there was a grandeur on how 'Selznick placed everything on the line for Jennifer Jones.'

Selznick was obsessed with "Tender Is The Night" and bombarded 20th and Director Henry King with memos on how Jennifer Jones should be Directed. Ms. Jones looked great and gave a fine performance.

I recommend the book "Memo From David Selznick"
