Cee Lo Green Avoids Jail Over Drug Charge Involving Ex-Girlfriend
Singer/rapper Cee Lo Green made a plea deal over an ecstasy charge and has been sentenced to three years of probation and community service.
Last year an ex-girlfriend accused "The Voice" judge, real name Thomas DeCarlo Callaway, of slipping her ecstasy before having sex with her after a dinner date. The anonymous plaintiff claimed Green spiked her drink during a date in November, 2012, in Los Angeles and she later woke up naked in a bed with him.
The Gorillaz star initially pleaded not guilty to the claim but later pled no contest to a felony count of sharing ecstasy in a deal that allows him to maintain his innocence.
On Friday Green, 39, entered the plea during a brief court hearing. Los Angeles Superior Court Judge Mark Young decided the singer must serve probation, according to TMZ.com.
In addition, Green must complete 360 hours of community service at the MusiCares Foundation of the Recording Academy, which issues financial aid and medical care to struggling musicians. He must also attend 52 private alcohol counseling sessions.
Previously, prosecutors dropped a charge of sexual assault against Green due to insufficient evidence.
