Cast of 'Warehouse 13' Talks Monday's Mid-Season Finale
On Monday, SyFy will air Warehouse 13’s mid-season four finale at 9 pm ET, and according to Jack Kenny, Executive Producer, “in a surprising and thrilling culmination of the evil that Artie created when he used Magellan’s Astrolabe in the season premiere, Eddie, Myka, Claudia and Steve chase Artie across the world to prevent him from unleashing a far worse menace on humanity.”
Kenny recently participated in a conference call with three members of the cast to discuss the season as a whole and the mid-season finale in particular. Joining Kenny on that call were Eddie McClintock (Pete Lattimer), Saul Rubinek (Artie Nielsen) and Allison Scagliotti (Claudia Donovan).
Here are some of the more revealing quotes:
Jack Kenny on the mid-season finale: “[It’s] a culmination of that struggle and the revelation of what the evil is that Artie released and then how Artie and our team have to deal with it.”
Allison Scagliotti on the guest stars they’ve booked this past season: “I think the most important thing that we found with the amazing variety of guest stars that we’ve had come through not just from Star Trek but from other shows is that they’ve got to be able to fall in with our rhythm ... and most of the time they can hack it and that’s what makes them fit in more than their SciFi cred, although the SciFi cred doesn’t hurt.”
Jack Kenny on the dark twists and turns the season had taken so far: “The writing staff gets to, push these actors to these limits, these incredibly high stakes, emotional limits where, you know, every single one of these cast members has made me cry numerous times and made me laugh out loud numerous times watching them. And the way - the reason we get to push them so far is because they’re so God damn good. They’re just good. You can give them comedy. You can give them drama. You can give them pathos, action. They just jump into everything feet first and that’s also incredibly rare.”
Eddie McClintock, clearly kidding, on when he knew the show was a success: “… when I was putting a dollar in this girl’s G string and she looked down from the stage and said to me, ‘Hey you’re that guy from Warehouse 13,’ and that’s when I knew.”
Jack Kenny on how they come up with ideas for artifacts: “The artifacts tend to follow stories. I mean, if the artifacts is - if we want to do a story about somebody effecting the weather, then we look for something that would be fun that isn’t necessarily a one-to-one ratio. In other words, we’re not going to look for somebody’s weather vane or somebody’s, you know, or - like for instance, in that episode, it was a pipe that belonged to a guy who recorded the first tornado. So, you know, we said we’re going to do something about tornados, you know, I’ll get on Wikipedia - tornados. And, okay, what - who saw the first one? How did that go? What was his name? What was his life like? What did he do? And then we figure out how that artifact, whatever it could be, would be becoming viewed by whatever happened to him the first time he saw the first tornado. So we just kind of do that - we do that all over the place … thank God for Wikipedia.”
Jack Kenny on how far ahead they plan seasons: “You know, we always have - we have a bunch of episodes - there’re always a bunch of ideas up on the board, on cards on the board, for either a story or it might be a fun artifact, although like I said, we don’t usually start with artifacts - that we keep in backlog. … I knew how we’d bring the warehouse back from total destruction [at the beginning of this season.]”
Jack Kenny on if he knows how the show will eventually end: “I kind of have an idea of how the series will end. Absolutely. I mean, it’s - you’re always thinking about those things. In every series I’ve ever done I’ve had an idea of what that last episode would be. So it’s - yes, it’s always in your head but who knows where it’ll be then and where the series will be. It could end any number of ways.”
Warehouse 13 returns in April 2013 with 10 all-new episodes of season four. The mid-season finale can be seen this Monday at 9 pm ET on SyFy.
