Cast Of 'Glee' Tops The Beatles On Hot 100 Chart
The cast of "Glee" is set to pass the Beatles' bag of Billboard Hot 100 chart hits thanks to another six new entries on the countdown, which will be announced on Thursday.
The cast's Britney Spears tribute show wowed fans, who snapped up downloads by the hundreds of thousands and propelled five Spears covers into the top 100 and snagged the highest debut of the week at 16 with "Toxic."
The tally, which also includes Lea Michele's heartbreaking rendition of Paramore's "The Only Exception," puts the cast ahead of the Beatles for most appearances among non-solo acts in the Billboard chart's 52-year history.
The "Glee" stars have now notched up 75 chart hits - four more than the Fab Four. Only James Brown and Elvis Presley have had more chart success, with 91 and 108 hits respectively.
Ironically, one of the "Glee" cast's 75 Hot 100 hits was a cover of the Beatles' "Hello Goodbye," and the TV stars are set to pull further ahead of the Fab Four next week - Chris Colfer's cover of "I Want to Hold Your Hand" is expected to be high new entry.
According to chart compilers Nielsen Soundscan, the "Glee" cast has sold 11.5 million downloads.
