Bruce Springsteen Offers Songwriting Secrets At SXSW
Bruce Springsteen volunteered a few songwriting secrets during his keynote speech at the South By Southwest festival on Thursday, joking his successes are based on other people's tunes.
The Boss turned professor for the afternoon as he talked about his career and the longevity of rock 'n' roll and picked up a guitar to strum through some of his fan favorites.
The highlight of his speech came when he played The Animals' Don't Let Me Be Misunderstood and followed up with his own Badlands, revealing, "It's the same f**king riff, man."
He later performed a rendition of another Animals hit, We Gotta Get Out Of This Place, and quipped, "That's every song I've ever written. I'm not kidding, that's all of them."
Springsteen's hour-long lecture was a big hit and he received a standing ovation as he left the stage.
The rocker made a musical mark on the Austin, Texas festival on Wednesday night when he joined pal Alejandro Escovedo onstage for an impromptu jam.
