A recent British poll named Queen's 1985 Live Aid performance as the world's greatest rock gig. Jimi Hendrix's 1969 appearance at Woodstock came second, followed by the Sex Pistols' 1976 concert at Manchester Free Trade Hall. More than 60 artists, journalists and music industry executives contributed to the survey.

Other artists in the rundown include Bob Dylan, David Bowie, Bob Marley and Oasis. The selected concerts also feature Nirvana's last UK appearance at the 1992 Reading Festival, Brian Wilson's Smile concert at London's Royal Festival Hall in February 2004, and the Rolling Stones' free gig in Hyde Park in May 1969 - held two days after the death of the band's guitarist, Brian Jones.
