Ready to fight for your life in the woods?  Then follow us as we check out the recently out on Blu-ray 80’s flick "The Final Terror" out now from Shout! Factory’s genre division label Scream Factory.  We examine if the terror is indeed final below!

   Title: "The Final Terror"

   Grade: 3

Cast: Rachel Ward, Adrian Zmed, Lewis Smith

   Director: Andrew Davis

   Rating: R

   Runtime: 82 minutes

Release Company: Shout! Factory Home Entertainment

The Flick: "The Final Terror" is a classic example of early movie potential.  Meaning the film has a slew of actors (Daryl Hannah, Rachel Ward, and Adrian Zmed to name a few!) and even a director (Andrew Davis who has made such films as "Under Siege" and "The Fugitive!") that all went on to make it big, but here they only show some small signs of their eventual brilliance.  The film is essentially "Deliverance" meets the slasher flick (isn’t that like those "Wrong Turn" flicks?!) with the kids trying to survive an unknown assailant.  Again some decent direction by Davis and Zmed oozes charisma, but this one is a by-the-numbers affair.

Best Feature: The interviews with now aged Zmed and "The Heavenly Kid" himself Lewis Smith (is that really him?!) are very cool and candid indeed.  (Zmed admits to getting into the game for the gals!)  Note – the single commentary track with Director Davis could have been an amazing listen (he admits the opening was shot without his knowledge, but paid for his wedding and at one point during a savage kill boldly states “for all you horror fans the director didn’t love filming that sequence!”), but frankly needed a skilled moderator.  (What a waste!)

Best Hidden Gem: A young and pre-Fugitive Joe Pantoliano shows up in a fairly creepy little role.

Worth the Moola: An interesting film that has a spot for those interested, but not exactly a classic.  (Plus the original artwork always made me think that it was a zombie flick!)
