Frankenstein’s monster as a...superhero?  We’re checking out the new to Blu-ray action flick "I, Frankenstein 3D"  out now from Lionsgate Home Entertainment.  We check out the scars and scares below!

   Title: "I, Frankenstein 3D"

   Grade: 3

Cast: Aaron Eckhart, Bill Nighy, Yvonne Strahovski

   Director: Stuart Beattie

   Rating: PG-13

   Runtime: 92 minutes

   Release Company: Lionsgate Home Entertainment

The Flick: "I, Frankenstein" seems like a very cool and original take on the whole Frankenstein monster thing, but the film execution here leaves a lot to be desired.  Interesting is the story – Frankenstein’s monster kills his master and goes on to become a slayer of sorts – and the top notch cast – the always layered Aaron Eckhart and "Dexter’s" Yvonne Strahovski – but all are somewhat wasted under the fluffy direction by famed writer Stuart Beattie who just can’t get the flick to fly.  What follows are some cool scenes, but a flick without any sense of vision, purpose or tone.  Good story, good actors, bad director.  (EVEN in 3D!)

Best Feature: 'Creating a Monster' is a decent doc that delves deep into the cool make-up effects of various monster and demons.

Best Hidden Gem: The only person who overcomes the tepid direction by Beattie is Eckhart who can bring nuanced work to any character.

Worth the Moola: Kind of the "Van Helsing" of the dark "Spawn"-like set, this "I, Frankenstein" needed a doctor with an actual degree.
