Betty White will be hosting Saturday Night Live May 8th, following a powerful grassroots effort to get the 88 year old star on the comedy program.
White will celebrate Mother's Day weekend with several female Saturday Night Live alums: Tina Fey, Amy Poehler, Molly Shannon, Maya Rudolph, Ana Gasteyer and Rachel Dratch.
She revealed to USA Today, "Years ago, I turned it down three times. It's so New York, and I'm not New York at all."
Half a million users belong to a Facebook group entitled "Betty White to Host SNL (please?)!" The campaign gained traction after a Snickers commercial during the Super Bowl featured Betty White being tackled during a pick-up football game. The ad was rated one of the best.
White says of the attention, "It's lovely, and at my age it's certainly unexpected." She's also confident she can handle the workload leading up to the live show: "I've got so much energy, it's ridiculous. I love working. My schedule is a feverish one, and I'm used to that."
