Beastie Boys star Mike Diamond has been named the artistic director of a new cultural festival in Los Angeles.

The hip-hop star, aka Mike D, has been given the task of overseeing the Transmission LA: AV Club event, which begins on April 19th.

The festival, which was first launched in Germany last year, is slated to feature pop-up art galleries and performances by a number of local musicians, and Mike D has some fixed ideas about his latest venture.

He tells the Wall Street Journal, "I micro control many things in my life and I just want this to be fun filled with experimental moments... I want a place where people can come and hang out."

"Not some button-up white walls gallery with people to match."
