Andy Garcia was a strict dad when his children were growing up - his daughter Dominik was too terrified to bring home a boyfriend until she was 23.
The Godfather: Part III star admits he was over-protective of his eldest daughter and wanted her potential suitors to "fear" him. And his actress offspring was so wary of upsetting her caring dad; she hid her romances from him until she was in her twenties.
Garcia tells Britain's Sunday Times Magazine, "Dominik was the first and she suffered more protectiveness from me than the others. She never had a key: she'd have to ring the bell when she came home after a date - I wanted to see what condition she was in. She never had a steady boyfriend in school; I didn't think it was healthy at that age... So I'd joke: 'When a boy comes to pick you up it wasn't my job to like them. It was my job to make them fear me. If they proved to be the love of your life, fine: otherwise they'd need to feel the wrath of the father.'"
And his City Island star daughter confesses her dad's behavior had an odd effect on her love life: "As a teenager I wasn't allowed to do anything: I had a curfew; I wasn't allowed a key to my house; I couldn't have parties."
"The first time I brought a serious boyfriend home I was in my twenties. I wanted to visit this boy in college and Dad said: 'I don't know... where are you sleeping? In a hotel?' And I said: 'No, I'm sleeping in his house. Look, I'm 23!'"
