The funny thing about comic book characters is that they rarely stay dead for long.

Agent Phil Coulson, despite getting stabbed in the back in The Avengers and dying in the arms of Nick Fury, has returned to the world of the living and will play a huge role in the upcoming TV series Marvel's Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D.

At first it was believed the series would take place before the events of The Avengers, but it becomes clear that this is post-New York invasion when an interviewed agent describes himself as "Clearance Level 6" and explains that he knows Coulson was killed.

That's when Coulson shows up and says "Welcome to Level 7."

Other than the return of Coulson, the trailer hints at the type of TV series to expect this fall. There appears to be two storylines: The people in S.H.I.E.L.D. trying to scrutinize every superhuman, and the superhumans attempting to stay hidden and debating whether to work with the government or not.

The one superhuman showcased in the trailer is most likely Luke Cage, one of the first African American heroes. From Harlem, Cage has super strength and unbreakable skin - thus the heroic jumping and catching of a woman as seen in the trailer.

However, there are theories that the hero is actually Rage. Also from New York (Brooklyn), Rage is a thirteen year-old boy exposed to toxic waste and changed into a superhuman 30 year-old man. The idea of so much power in the hands of an adolescent sounds like its right up series creator Joss Whedon's alley.

Marvel's Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D. will air Tuesdays this fall on ABC.
