In a result that will surely send fanboys into a rage, action-RPG The Elder Scrolls IV: Oblivion beat out favorite Gears of War for Game of the Year at Spike TV Video Game Awards 2006. The latest from the Ghost Recon series takes #1 on the Xbox 360 chart, beating out former-launch-title Elder Scrolls IV: Oblivion. Meanwhile, true launch-title Call of Duty 2 remains strong, just out of the top five.

Burnout: Revenge (Xbox 360) - The fourth game in the series is designed to offer more avenues to destruction than any of its predecessors, by featuring a greater capacity for real-time damage and car deformation, multilevel track layouts that allow players to ram their opponents from below or above, as well as from behind or in front, and a new "revenge meter" that encourages players to pay back -- with interest -- those who wrong them on the roads.

Winners were announced during the 3rd annual Spike TV "Video Game Awards 2005" ceremony held at the Gibson Amphitheatre in Los Angeles, CA. Hosted by Samuel L. Jackson, the two-hour "game vs. game" extravaganza will premiere on Spike TV Saturday, December 10 (9:00-11:00 PM, ET/PT).
