Q&A: Abby Lee Miller of Lifetime's 'Dance Moms'

October 6th, 2011 2:07pm EDT
Dance Moms
My colleague Lisa Siegfried recently spoke with Abby Lee Miller of Lifetime's Dance Moms, which just aired its finale last night. The show follows Abby Lee, several of her dancers, and of course, their parents - which is sometimes a recipe for difficulty.

Here are some of Abby's thoughts on the high-pressure world of youth dance.

What, in your opinion, makes the perfect “Dance Mom”? How involved is she, what kind of demeanor does she have, what are the most important traits she needs to possess?

The perfect dance mom would be respectful, thoughtful, doesn’t offer suggestions but i...

Anna David On 'Reality Matters'

April 5th, 2010 1:58pm EDT
Anna David Reality Matters
What do you get when you give a dozen writers who are hooked on reality television a pen and paper? Reality Matters. The book, edited by Anna David, is a brilliant compilation of essays by various writers coming clean about the reality shows they can’t stop watching. Why do we love this genre? Why are we glued to the TV every week as if our lives would end if we didn’t see who The Bachelor picked as his bride-to-be, or which wannabe star got the boot on American Idol? The book explores such shows like The Real Housewives of New York City, The Hills, Married by America, Project Runway, The O...

TV Reunions We'd Like To See

August 28th, 2009 10:02am EDT
Party Of Five
We all have our favorite shows, especially the ones we used to beg mom and dad to let us stay up and watch. Or the shows we watched with our friends every week and discussed the next day in school because it was the most exciting event in our lives. Most of these shows are played in syndication, but the true fans want to know what's going on with our favorite characters now.

Here are the top shows that we'd love to see do reunion specials:

It's been 20 years since "Saved by the Bell," TV's first live-action Saturday morning sitcom debuted. The show started as "Good Morning, Miss Blis...

Mayim Bialik Discusses 'Saving Grace', 'What Not To Wear', And Yes 'Blossom'

July 14th, 2009 11:16am EDT
Mayim Bialik
Mayim Bialik -- Yes, that Mayim Bialik -- is appearing tonight (Tuesday at 10 pm ET on TNT) as the daughter of a murder victim on "Saving Grace." Don't assume she's the culprit just because you're thinking, as Mayim says, "why else would Blossom be in the first scene" as she was on "Bones" last season --which would have been a false prophecy, it turns out. Mayim also discusses her recent (and quite popular) appearance on "What Not to Wear" and talks about her time on a show called "Blossom."

Mayim Bialik: Hello!

Mike: Hi Mayim, how are you?

Mayim Bialik: OK, how are you?

Mike: P...

TLC's full name, The Learning Channel, might sound misleading. The name may conjure up a giant showcase of eighth-grade science documentaries. But make no mistake - TLC puts a different spin on their Learning Channel title. Covering everything from relationships, food, and home décor, the coolly abbreviated TLC has your lifestyle-learning needs covered. Check out our "Best Of" list to see what's behind the TLC buzz:

"Trading Spaces"

It's a show that helped put the modern TLC on the map. Two teams swap rooms and get two days and a $1,000 to redecorate each other's spaces (wi...

Our Favorite Reality Shows

America
Even though we might not always admit it, we love reality television. It's hard not to because reality TV brings viewers entertaining and shocking moments, leaving viewers wanting more.

Followig is a look at some of the most popular reality shows that people can't help but watch week after week:

American Idol

"American Idol" made its Fox debut on June 11, 2002, and has now become one of the most popular shows on American television. The show originated from the 2001 British reality program "Pop Idol." The show has given us talented singers like Kelly Clarkson, David Cook, Carri...

Terminator: The Sarah Connor Chronicles (FOX, 8 p.m.) - It feel like only yesterday that the series premiered, but hopefully tonight's two-hour finale won't be the series finale. The show is a keeper for supporting players Summer Glau and Brian Austin Green (who would have thunk it?) alone.

America's Obsession With Reality TV

November 16th, 2007 4:37pm EST
American Idol
What is it about reality TV that turns America into a society of curious voyeurs and drama queens? With a combination of deception, sexual encounters, drunken ramblings and sudden outbursts it's no wonder that reality TV keeps viewers glued to their televisions week after week.

Instead of people just living their own lives, viewers can now be there first-hand to witness the dissolution of relationships, watch complete strangers getting stranded on an exotic island, follow amateur singers as they vie to be the next "American Idol," and look at the torment of what an "ugly duckling" will...
