Hugh Jackman And Wife Disappointed 'Viva Laughlin' TV Series Was Canceled In US, Australia

SYDNEY, Australia (AP) - Hugh Jackman's wife and business partner says the couple are disappointed their ''Viva Laughlin'' TV series has been canceled.

CBS axed the show in the U.S. after airing only two episodes because of low ratings. Australia's Nine Network pulled it after a single airing.

''We are obviously very disappointed, but you have to take risks in this business,'' Deborra-Lee Furness said Wednesday in Sydney.

The offbeat song-and-dance drama, based on the British miniseries ''Viva Blackpool,'' drew largely poor reviews in the U.S.

'The Amazing Race' Returns For Its 12th Edition Nov. 4

The Amazing Race, winner of five consecutive Emmy Awards for Outstanding Reality Competition Series, returns for its 12th edition on CBS, Sunday, Nov. 4 (8:00-9:00 PM, ET/PT).

"The Amazing Race" replaces "Viva Laughlin" which has been pulled from the schedule. A rebroadcast of CSI will air in the Sunday (8:00-9:00 PM) time period on Oct. 28.

This season, teams will travel approximately 50,000 miles, covering five new countries including Ireland, Lithuania and Croatia.

Independent media agency TargetCast tcm has picked five new network shows they think will be hits, along with the five they think will fall to the bottom of the heap as the primetime season begins in a week.

NBC has two new shows that should do well, says Steve Farella, CEO of TargetCast tcm, a media planning and buying agency. "Chuck" (Mondays at 8 Eastern), a comedy about a computer geek who becomes the government's most valuable secret agent, looks promising, the agency says. CBS Announces 2007-2008 Premiere Dates

CBS today announced plans for the premieres of its new and returning series which includes the early debut of its freshman reality series "Kid Nation," as well as "Survivor: China" and most of its Sunday lineup during the week of Sept. 17. The Network will launch the remainder of its schedule beginning Monday, Sept. 24, the official start of the 2007-2008 season.

CBS's new reality series "Kid Nation" premieres Wednesday, Sept. 19 (8:00-9:00 PM, ET/PT) followed the next night with the debut of "Survivor: China," Thursday, Sept. 20 (8:00-9:00 PM, ET/PT).
