Jennifer Hudson Gets in the Habit of 'The Three Stooges'

June 2nd, 2011 8:07am EDT

There is now one nun for every 'Stooge.'

Jennifer Hudson, the impossibly talented star of "Dreamgirls," will be soon be singing (we hope!) for the orphans as she joins the cast of "The Three Stooges," according to Deadline.

Jennifer will be playing the role of Sister Rosemary, one of the nuns at the orphanage where Larry, Moe and Curly grew up. She joins Jane Lynch as Mother Superior and Larry David as Mother Mengele.

Hmm... could a spin-off called "The Three Nuns" be far behind? Not to be confused, of course, with "The Three Sisters," the stage play by Anton Chekhov. Woo woo woo!

Jane Lynch Playing A Nun In 'The Three Stooges'

Of course Jane Lynch is playing a nun in "The Three Stooges." Because who else would play a nun in "The Three Stooges?"

Jane Lynch will be putting down the bullhorn she wields so well on "Glee" (or maybe not, who knows?) and donning a habit for her role as Mother Superior in the Farrelly Brothers' upcoming slapstick comedy, according to Deadline.

Mother Superior runs the orphanage where Larry (Sean Hayes), Moe (Chris Diamantopoulos) and Curly (Will Sasso) grew up. No one ever wanted to adopt the trio, despite her best efforts.

Lynch is funny, and she'll make "The Three Stooges" even fun...

Hey Moe! Chris Diamantopoulos Could Be Third 'Stooge'

And we were beginning to think they were just gonna cut Moe out of it!

After searching both high and low and to and fro, the Farrelly Brothers have finally found themselves a frontrunner for the role of Moe in "The Three Stooges." A fella by the name of Chris Diamantopoulos is apparently the man -- or, rather, stooge -- they want for the job, according to Deadline.

Diamantopoulos (which might be the most gloriously Greek-sounding Greek name ever invented) recently appeared as Frank Sinatra in the television mini-series, "The Kennedys," and appeared as Rob Weiss, the Chief of Staff to Pre...

Sean Hayes To Play Larry In 'The Three Stooges'

April 5th, 2011 8:27am EDT
Sean Hayes
Sean Hayes is gearing up to play The Three Stooges' Larry Fine after Sean Penn backed out of the Farrelly Brothers' latest project.

The former Will & Grace star joins Canadian funnyman Will Sasso, who will play Curly Howard in the upcoming comedy. Peter and Bobby Farrelly are still looking to fill the role of Moe Howard.

The quirky moviemaking duo had originally cast Penn to play Larry, Jim Carrey as Curly and Benicio del Toro as Moe.

The film will not be a biopic; instead, it will be divided into 30-minute long vignettes, according to the Hollywood Reporter.

Hank Azaria and James Marsden Joining Will Sasso in 'Three Stooges'?

So far it's been a wild parade of stars lining up for their chance to poke, prod, and eyeball-doink each other to hilarious effect in Peter and Bobby Farrelly's spiffy new rendition of "The Three Stooges." Everyone from Sean Penn to Johnny Knoxville has been in the running so far, and we'll wager even Lindsay Lohan had an audition as Moe at one point.

The Farrellys have noted in the past their intent to cast one person first and then build the rest of the trio of Moe, Larry, and Curly around that individual. Now, in a glorious case of casting to-type, Canadian cueball Will Sasso seems to b...

As Peter and Bobby Farrelly make the interview rounds for their new gross-out comedy "Hall Pass" they're dropping some tantalizing tidbits in anticipation of finally getting to make their "Three Stooges" flick.

Despite word that the director brothers are looking at a wide range of unknowns, a surprising array of celebrities are lining up to bring the nyuk nyuk to the contemporary take on the Stooges.

According to the Boston Herald, the Farrelly Brothers are sifting through such chowderheads as their "Kingpin" star Woody Harrelson, Justin Timberlake, or golfing buddy Larry David for Larry,...

The Farrelly Brothers Step Up Hunt For 'Three Stooges'

December 3rd, 2010 3:16pm EST
Bobby Farrelly
The Farrelly Brothers are stepping up their hunt for actors to play The Three Stooges in their new movie after failing to find replacements for Jim Carrey and Sean Penn.

Carrey and Penn both bowed out of the project, and the filmmaking duo is running out of time to find new stars to play 1930s comedy icons Moe Howard, Curly Howard and Larry Fine before filming begins in March.

It is unclear if Benicio del Toro, who was attached to play Moe, remains in the cast. Peter Farrelly admits they are now "opening the roles up to the world" as they attempt to find the perfect actors for the parts...

'Glee' Recap: 'Acafellas'

Glee
Despite being called "Acafella" and focusing on Will's attempts to form his own adult group, this week's episode was still all about the kids…particularly Miss Mercedes. The girl moved just as fiercely as any of her scantily clad cheerleader back-up dancers during "Bust Your Windows." Kurt may have broken her heart initially (by lying about loving Rachel), but when he finally confessed his homosexuality, Mercedes pulled through with a heartfelt and supportive (if not slightly sappy) speech about friendship and acceptance. With Mercedes left boyfriendless I really hoped this would be the epi...

The Farrelly Brothers Can Make 'The Three Stooges' Movie Work

May 11th, 2009 11:47am EDT
The Three Stooges
When it comes to being funny, the Farrelly Brothers aren't joking. They've cast two Oscar winners, Sean Penn and Benicio Del Toro, (neither known for their comedic chops, at least not lately) as the immortal stooges Moe Howard and Larry Fine. They've also cast Jim Carrey as the corpulent Curley Howard. He's being expected to put on a good forty pounds for the role, a feat that's more reminiscent of Robert De Niro's transformation for the film, 'Raging Bull', than any comedy. (Fat suits and Jack Black don't count.) So why are the Farrelly brothers putting so much emphasis on the dramatic sid...

Jenny McCarthy Worries About Gaining 'Stooges' Weight

Jenny McCarthy
Jenny McCarthy fears boyfriend Jim Carrey's bid to become chubby Three Stooges character Curly will set her off on a doughnut diet.

The actress/model has confirmed Carrey is preparing to get 'in shape' to play the larger-than-life Stooge, opposite Sean Penn and Benicio Del Toro, and he has warned his toned girlfriend to be prepared to date a bigger Jim.

She says, "He said, 'You know I'm going to have to gain 40 to 50 pounds for this role." However McCarthy is thrilled: "I said, 'Oh my God! I get to be dating Curly! That is the greatest thing ever.'"

The actress is only wor...

Peter Farrelly tells IGN FilmForce, "The Stooges is something we've wanted to do for years and years. It's a very tricky movie to get made. I'm not sure why, but usually our best movies are, so I'm happy about that. The Stooges has just been a nightmare, because there's nothing like The Stooges...
