'Supernatural' Recap: Knockin' On Heaven's Door

February 26th, 2014 11:21am EST
Supernatural
With the Winter Olympics bobsledding into that great competition in the sky for another four years, it's time for "Supernatural" to continue its angst-filled scare-a-thon. The appropriately titled "Captives" found Castiel assuming a very different, yet familiar position and our favorite prophet returned to yank on everyone's heartstrings like Quazimodo does cathedral bells.

Grab your lockpicks and let's dive in, shall we?

Angel Watch

I’ve actually missed Castiel over the last few episodes, so it’s good to see him back in the fold even if his scenes tanked the momentum of the episode...

Every four years, the Winter Olympics inspires nations through through extreme snowy sports, the human spirit and a centuries' old flame. As much as I enjoyed the tear-jerking interviews and the incredible performances, I'm glad the Olympic torch has been extinguished and the television can resume its regularly scheduled programming. In honor of all of the returning shows, here are five spoilers you need to know on "New Girl", "Hawaii Five-0" and more...

The CW series "Arrow," "Reign," "The Originals," "The Vampire Diaries" and "Supernatural" have been picked up for another season, according to the network's president, Mark Pedowitz.

"The Carrie Diaries," "Hart of Dixie," "Beauty and the Beast" and "The Tomorrow People" were not mentioned in the network's press release.

The Tuesday night pairing of "The Originals" and "Supernatural" gave the CW its best night in years, Pedowitz explained, adding that Wednesday and Thursday nights have also been strong due to "Vampire Diaries," "Arrow" and "Reign."

After nearly 200 episodes, the "Supernatural" masterminds are adept at tempering emotional angst with slapstick humor. "The Purge" tried to walk that artistic tightrope, balancing the emotional angst between Sam and Dean with the humor surrounding the weekly case. Due to the workout Yogi Sammy gave our feels, fans are bound to be sore well into the Olympic hiatus.

'Supernatural's' Spin-Off Gets Tribal

February 3rd, 2014 1:30pm EST
'Supernatural's' Spin-Off Gets Tribal
“Supernatural,” The CW’s longest running series, is finally getting a spin-off. According to TVLine.com, “Supernatural: Tribes” centers on the escalating war between several monster families vying for power in Chicago, and of course, a hunter bent on revenge. Sounds downright Shakespearean, right?

The lead character is Ennis Roth, a presumably handsome man with “a strong sense of justice” who will cross paths with Sam and Dean (Jared Padalecki and Jensen Ackles respectively) after someone close to him is killed and “will learn the staggering truth” about the supernatural war brewing in ...

Last's week's game-changing episode of "Supernatural" resonated with me for days, and I couldn't wait to see how it rippled into this week's. Unfortunately, "Sharp Teeth" had as much bite as a toothless, old cat.

Grab your silver bullets, and let's dive in, shall we?

The brothers unite to solve the case of Garth's sudden re-emergence as a hit-and-run victim in Grantsburg, Wisconsin, where there has been a rash of mutilated animals. Despite the palpable crackling tension between Sam and Dean trying to slip Sam like Taylor Swift does boyfriends, the brothers still work a case like a the...

'Supernatural' Recap: First Born (9x11)
Dean and Crowley hunting together! Sam and Cas bromance in the bunker! A dream come true! Let's dive right in to the plot.

Dean is on his own, being sad, when Crowley approaches him and asks him for help in tracking down the First Blade, which is apparently a super fancy knife that can kill Knights of Hell, and thus take care of Abaddon. So, using John Winchester's journal, the two of them find an old hunting friend of John's named Tara. She has most of the ingredients for a locator spell, and Crowley is able to supply the last piece. Crowley and Dean track down the location where the Firs...

'Supernatural' Recap: Bosom Badasses

If last week’s episode of “Supernatural” ripped your heart out, this week’s installment fused it back together with badassery, a bit of heart and a few artful liberties with the world’s oldest sibling rivalry.

Let’s dive in, shall we?

While Sam tries to avenge Kevin with the “harmless” dregs of grace the sloppy “psycho angel” Gadreel left inside him, Dean opts for good, old-fashioned revenge.  Of course, Crowley arrives to harsh his buzz and possibly rescue his loins.  "This bar is a bust.  That waitress is trouble with a capital VD, and your prey, Gadreel, has left the building.  It’s ...

Congrats, you survived the holidays, the Polar Vortex, the television hiatuses, and the seventeen "I don't have anything prepared!!" speeches at "The Golden Globes."  Your reward is this week's stunning episode of "Supernatural."  "Road Trip" was the intensely poetic and extremely timely conclusion to the first half of the season in which Sam finally learns he's been touched by an angel; Dean deals with the consequences of his impulsive and desperate decision to save his brother; and Kevin Tran is still dead.

Admittedly, I wasn't happy with the reveal that Sam was once again possessed by...

'Supernatural' Winter Finale Recap: Trojan Horse

Supernatural
“Supernatural” won’t air new episodes until 2014, so the winter finale demanded it go out with a bang.  "Holy Terror" did nothing but drop bomb after devastating bomb.

When we heard the state of Sam's health last week, he was nothing but "duct tape and safety pins inside."  This week, Ezekiel is claiming that Sam is "much-improved" but Zeke still says that Sam needs more time.  Honestly, I'm not sure I'd want to leave Casa Sammy either.  He's got the dimples and tiny waist and he definitely doesn't have to ask strangers to get things off the top shelf at the grocery store.  However, last...

There was a period of Dean Winchester's life that's never talked about.  It's a long kept secret between Dean and John because unspeakable things happened during those lost two months when a 12-year-old Sammy was at Bobby's and John was on the road.  "Nobody bad-touched me.  Nobody burned me with their smokes or beat me with a metal hanger," Dean promises.  It was much worse: Dean Winchester lived regular.  He went to school, did his chores, joined the wrestling team and flirted with the local girl at the diner.  This week's very special episode of "Supernatural" explores this time while ja...

It was bound to happen sometime.  After a streak of mostly stellar or at least good episodes that began in the middle of season 8, "Supernatural" finally delivered an installment that was more filler than phenomenal. Okay, I'm happy. Like... I'm really happy. This is one of the only episodes of Supernatural to ever pass the Bechdel test, which is awesome on its own. Then take into account that we get to see Charlie again, and the fact that this episode allowed us to explore the bunker, and that we had a sassy Crowley making Wicked references, and that it addressed some big plot points while still staying light and funny, and that the girls totally save the day, and that Oz is freaking real, and that they watch Game of Thrones together... oh my word. However, I will inevitably be bringing up the emotionally charged moments between Dean and Cas that occurred in this particular episode. But I'm not freaking out. I'm not despairing about Destiel, and I'm not suddenly ecstatic about its imminent arrival. I'm exactly the same about it as I have been - excited about the possibility, but not holding my breath.

That being said, let us dive straight in to the episode!

Supernatural
And here we have part two of our three-act opening story. Last week we established the characters, this week we established the main problems of the season: Abaddon, making a bid for Queen of Hell, and Ezekiel!Sam, or more specifically Dean keeping this secret from Sam. There's also the lingering threat of Crowley, tied up in the bunker, and Cas is still not with our boys. Ultimately I don't think this second episode was quite as strong as the first, but it still set up a few of the season's conflicts very nicely.

Let's look at the plot. Crowley has been taken captive to the bunker, where ...

Chicago Fire is also doing solid numbers on Tuesday. Revolution needs to regain some audience members if it wants a second season. With the success of The Blacklist, and Chicago Fire doing OK, Revolution is looking to be one of NBC’s weaker points right now. I can’t see it not running the full second season, but it might not get a third. Also, Ironside is definitely going to get cancelled. The premiere was so low, a...

2013 Fall TV Preview: The Returning Shows On The CW & CBS

The CW and CBS are complete opposites. The CW shouldn't be in business, and CBS is THE business. The CW aims for teenagers to lose their sh!t on social media. CBS aims for the median age of the people in my office. I've never understood the Blue Bloods audience more than in the last year. My interest in The CW is odd and possibly unhealthy.
