'Supernatural' Recap: Bosom Badasses

January 22nd, 2014 11:10am EST
Supernatural
If last week’s episode of “Supernatural” ripped your heart out, this week’s installment fused it back together with badassery, a bit of heart and a few artful liberties with the world’s oldest sibling rivalry.

Let’s dive in, shall we?

While Sam tries to avenge Kevin with the “harmless” dregs of grace the sloppy “psycho angel” Gadreel left inside him, Dean opts for good, old-fashioned revenge.  Of course, Crowley arrives to harsh his buzz and possibly rescue his loins.  "This bar is a bust.  That waitress is trouble with a capital VD, and your prey, Gadreel, has left the building.  It’s ...

'Supernatural' Recap: Welcome To Poughkeepsie

January 15th, 2014 1:03pm EST
Supernatural
Congrats, you survived the holidays, the Polar Vortex, the television hiatuses, and the seventeen "I don't have anything prepared!!" speeches at "The Golden Globes."  Your reward is this week's stunning episode of "Supernatural."  "Road Trip" was the intensely poetic and extremely timely conclusion to the first half of the season in which Sam finally learns he's been touched by an angel; Dean deals with the consequences of his impulsive and desperate decision to save his brother; and Kevin Tran is still dead.

Admittedly, I wasn't happy with the reveal that Sam was once again possessed by...

'Supernatural' Winter Finale Recap: Trojan Horse

December 4th, 2013 11:31am EST
Supernatural
“Supernatural” won’t air new episodes until 2014, so the winter finale demanded it go out with a bang.  "Holy Terror" did nothing but drop bomb after devastating bomb.

When we heard the state of Sam's health last week, he was nothing but "duct tape and safety pins inside."  This week, Ezekiel is claiming that Sam is "much-improved" but Zeke still says that Sam needs more time.  Honestly, I'm not sure I'd want to leave Casa Sammy either.  He's got the dimples and tiny waist and he definitely doesn't have to ask strangers to get things off the top shelf at the grocery store.  However, last...

'Supernatural' Recap: Bringing Sexy Back

November 27th, 2013 10:05am EST

"Supernatural" has never been a show about love, relationships and dating. When you're handpicked to fight an ever-worsening war between good and evil, your love life has to take a back seat.  "Rock And A Hard Place" touches upon the giant elephant in the room by re-virginizing and then de-flowering Dean Winchester who was in desperate need for some action (and on his third virginity).

Grab your chastity belts, and let's dive in, shall we?

'Supernatural' Recap: Kung Fu Grip

November 20th, 2013 8:53am EST
Supernatural
There was a period of Dean Winchester's life that's never talked about.  It's a long kept secret between Dean and John because unspeakable things happened during those lost two months when a 12-year-old Sammy was at Bobby's and John was on the road.  "Nobody bad-touched me.  Nobody burned me with their smokes or beat me with a metal hanger," Dean promises.  It was much worse: Dean Winchester lived regular.  He went to school, did his chores, joined the wrestling team and flirted with the local girl at the diner.  This week's very special episode of "Supernatural" explores this time while ja...

'Supernatural' Recap: Oh The Humanity!

November 13th, 2013 9:58am EST
Supernatural
It was bound to happen sometime.  After a streak of mostly stellar or at least good episodes that began in the middle of season 8, "Supernatural" finally delivered an installment that was more filler than phenomenal. "Heaven Can't Wait" was a woefully unbloody episode that even Castiel’s lullabies and Abaddon's fabulousness couldn't save.

Grab your poncho and let's dive in shall we?

The cold open is a lesson in "Supernatural's" trademark dark humor. After a suicidal man bravely decides not to blow his brains out, he mysteriously blows up, streaking the cabin with a horrendous hue of pin...

You wouldn't think that a sci-fi show could bring the laughs better than 89% of recent 'SNL' episodes but "Supernatural," with some heavy-lifting from the gorgeous goofball Jensen Ackles and straight-man Jared Padalecki, continues to bring the hilarity.  "Dog Dean Afternoon" follows the Winchesters' escapades after Dean mind-melds with a dog in order to solve a horrific murder.

'Supernatural': Slumber Party (9x04)

November 2nd, 2013 3:43am EDT
Supernatural
Okay, I'm happy. Like... I'm really happy. This is one of the only episodes of Supernatural to ever pass the Bechdel test, which is awesome on its own. Then take into account that we get to see Charlie again, and the fact that this episode allowed us to explore the bunker, and that we had a sassy Crowley making Wicked references, and that it addressed some big plot points while still staying light and funny, and that the girls totally save the day, and that Oz is freaking real, and that they watch Game of Thrones together... oh my word. I was just a smiling ball of joy throughout this entir...

'Supernatural' Recap: When Charlie Met Dorothy

October 30th, 2013 9:15am EDT
Supernatural
It's hard to believe that "Slumber Party" is only the fourth episode of "Supernatural" of the season.  I'm already emotional wrung out from Castiel's exile, Sam’s near-death, and Dean’s secret, so it's refreshing that this week's installment welcomes back honorary Winchester Charlie Bradbury (Felicia Day) and went back to its roots of exploring classic monster tales.  And what's more scary than a portal to another dimension that's home to a wicked witch, flying monkey and a man made of tin?

Grab your ruby slippers and let's dive in, shall we?

I'm not going to go into a meta rant about Destiel. So if that's what you're looking for with this review, I'm sorry. However, I will inevitably be bringing up the emotionally charged moments between Dean and Cas that occurred in this particular episode. But I'm not freaking out. I'm not despairing about Destiel, and I'm not suddenly ecstatic about its imminent arrival. I'm exactly the same about it as I have been - excited about the possibility, but not holding my breath.

That being said, let us dive straight in to the episode!

For an episode that delved into Castiel's newfound humanity, I expected a lot of zingers, confusion and the bizarre, cerebral humor that the former angel's portrayer  Misha Collins has perfected.  I was not prepared for "I'm No Angel" to cut out my heart out with one of those merciless angel blades and turn it into tartare.

'Supernatural' Review: 'Devil May Care' (9x02)

October 18th, 2013 2:24am EDT
Supernatural
And here we have part two of our three-act opening story. Last week we established the characters, this week we established the main problems of the season: Abaddon, making a bid for Queen of Hell, and Ezekiel!Sam, or more specifically Dean keeping this secret from Sam. There's also the lingering threat of Crowley, tied up in the bunker, and Cas is still not with our boys. Ultimately I don't think this second episode was quite as strong as the first, but it still set up a few of the season's conflicts very nicely.

Let's look at the plot. Crowley has been taken captive to the bunker, where ...

Last week's episode of "Superantural" may have been the premiere, but this week's episode, "Devil May Care," was the true kickstarter of season 9.  With fallen angels and Abaddon rising out of the ashes like the fiercest of phoenixes to contend with on top of everything "demony and monstery," it's going to be a busy year indeed.

Let's dive in, shall we?

"Supernatural's" season 8 finale left many angst-coated balls in the air: Castiel, having been tricked by Metatron, was rendered human; the angels were cast out of heaven; and Sam, choosing life, abandoned the trials only to very nearly perish anyway.  The season 9 premiere managed to keep all those balls compellingly in play while still ninja-kicking us in the heart.

2013 Fall TV Season: What Will Be The Second Cancellation?

NBC- The Voice is still doing good numbers on Monday/Tuesday. The Blacklist is winning its timeslot, and was the first show (technically) to be rewarded with a back-nine pickup. Chicago Fire is also doing solid numbers on Tuesday. Revolution needs to regain some audience members if it wants a second season. With the success of The Blacklist, and Chicago Fire doing OK, Revolution is looking to be one of NBC’s weaker points right now. I can’t see it not running the full second season, but it might not get a third. Also, Ironside is definitely going to get cancelled. The premiere was so low, a...

2013 Fall TV Preview: The Returning Shows On The CW & CBS

The CW and CBS are complete opposites. The CW shouldn't be in business, and CBS is THE business. The CW aims for teenagers to lose their sh!t on social media. CBS aims for the median age of the people in my office. I've never understood the Blue Bloods audience more than in the last year. My interest in The CW is odd and possibly unhealthy. I'm endlessly fascinated with its shows and attractive actors. I'll watch Reign just for Adelaide Kane. I'm not endlessly fascinated by CBS. CBS lulls me to sleep.
