4 Shows To Watch In 2014

January 3rd, 2014 12:20pm EST
There's no rest for the awesome. We're just days into the new year, but already there's plenty of great TV coming your way. Here are BFTV's picks for the four shows you absolutely cannot miss in 2014 - and you can tell us which programs you're most excited about in the comments.

The Good Wife (CBS; returns Sunday, Jan. 5 at 9 PM ET/PT): Fresh off racking up three Golden Globe nominations, the crown jewel of network television will pick up its fifth season on Sunday. The series has been on fire all season long, and we can't wait to see how it finishes out one of the best single seasons of...

Best Of 2013 TV: 'Suits,' 'The Good Wife' And More

December 30th, 2013 12:30pm EST
The Good Wife
High-fives for everyone! As 2013 comes to a close, it's time to recognize the TV shows and people behind them that have made our jobs worthwhile. We've looked back on all the programs we've covered this year and picked out the few that we think deserve some special recognition. Check them out below, and feel free to leave your own 'best of the best' in the comments.

TV Series Of The Year: USA's Suits

Television doesn't get any better than this. Suits has been nearly flawless over three seasons, with a completely fantastic cast including two of the best actors we can think of (Gabriel ...

5 TV Actors We're Thankful For In 2013

November 28th, 2013 11:00am EST
Josh Charles, The Good Wife
Thanksgiving is upon us and it's time for us to give our thanks - for the acting performances that make doing what we do worthwhile.

There are so many talented actors and actresses out there that we don't possibly have the space to recognize them all, but here are the five gentlemen who made us thankful that we were around to write about them over the past year, in alphabetical order.

1) Josh Charles, The Good Wife (CBS)

There's nothing sweeter to those of us watching an actor we love swing for the fences, and that's exactly what's been happening with Josh Charles this TV season. America...

'Suits' Finale Recap: Harvey And Rachel Make Relationship Moves

September 18th, 2013 8:26am EDT
Can you believe we've reached the midseason finale of Suits already? Neither can we. But after nine episodes of consistantly excellent work, episode ten blows it all out of the water, for both good and evil, but mostly good.

Bringing everything from this season and then some back into our memories, "Stay" opens with a really uncomfortable conversation between Harvey and his ex-flame slash current nemesis Scottie (returning guest star Abigail Spencer). He apologizes and tries to convince her to honor the existing dissolution agreement before things get any more chaotic. She remains convince...

How 'Suits' Proved The Power Of Split-Season TV

September 17th, 2013 12:30pm EDT
Harvey Specter knows what he's doing. So, too, do the people putting him on the schedule.

Not so long ago, TV audiences were used to a season being one relatively continuous block of 22 episodes. That's no longer the case anymore. There are about a half-dozen different ways we get our shows served to us, from the now-common 13 episodes with or without the option for more, to limited runs like the 9 episodes HBO's The Newsroom just completed. Suits, which airs on the USA Network, will have its midseason finale tonight and return for the rest of its third season next year. And while that's m...

'Suits' Recap: Season 3 Episode 8 'Endgame'

September 11th, 2013 9:42am EDT
Ready for the briefest review of all reviews? Knowing me, I'll probably get to typing and find out I have more to say than I thought, but for the moment I'm trying to keep this brief. Bottom line? I liked this episode. It brought out a lot of these character relationships and shined some light on some very interesting dynamics. However, there were a few things that got swept under the carpet a little too quickly, which makes me upset that we don't get to see these dynamics stretch out even further. Also, Rachel got the shaft to the subplot again this week, which sort of upset me.

The plot ...

'Suits' Review: She's Mine (3x07)

September 4th, 2013 10:36pm EDT
Woah. Stephen Huntley is responsible for the murders.

Should I have given a spoiler alert before writing that? Here's the thing - I feel as if people are going to have very mixed reactions to this news. I'm conflicted, myself. On the one hand, I definitely didn't see that coming. On the other... I really didn't see it coming. As in... there weren't very many helpful hints leading up to that reveal. So what do I think of this plot twist? I think... it's... probably going to be very interesting to see how the characters handle it. In that sense, I think it's good. But from a plot standpoint,...

'Suits' Recap: 'Endgame' Is The End Of Everything

September 4th, 2013 8:23am EDT
Suits ended last week with the best single scene of this television season. (And because that's an incredibly awesome moment, we show it to you again during the 'previously on.') How do you possibly follow that up?

"Endgame" picks up right after the end of "She's Mine." Donna's pulled out the first aid kit and is tending to Harvey's wounds, while he insists that he's fine, because he's a guy. When she berates herself for not seeing what kind of a monster Stephen Huntley was, he tells her it's okay and reassures her that Stephen will pay. After telling Mike that they're not going to talk ab...

'Suits' Recap: Harvey's Violent Confrontation With Stephen

August 28th, 2013 9:10am EDT
The title of this week's episode of Suits tells you that things are going to explode around Pearson Darby Specter. (As well they should, given the reveal at the end of last week's installment.) But this is one heck of an explosion. "She's Mine" has the best closing scene of the TV season. What led us to it?

We open with Donna listening to Stephen (guest star Max Beesley) play the piano, while we all take a moment to fantasize about punching him in the face. Thankfully for us, Harvey breaks up this happy moment to confront Stephen about leading Cameron Dennis right to his new star witness, ...

'Suits' Recap: The Other Time (3x06)

August 22nd, 2013 7:40am EDT
This week's episode of Suits was the strongest of the season so far. I was smiling through the whole thing. It wasn't flawless, of course, but I had a lot of fun seeing the flashbacks to ten years ago, and examining how our characters got to where they are today.

In the present-day plot, a few different things were going on. For one, Cameron Dennis has another witness for the trial, so it looks like the case is going forward again. Throughout the episode, there was a lot of back-and-forth about this. Mike discovered that Cameron was only bluffing, but then it turns out that he does get the...

'Suits' Recap: 'The Other Time' - Harvey And Donna's Excellent Adventure

August 21st, 2013 5:57am EDT
Something else Suits has figured out that most of us haven't? Flashback episodes. This week, "The Other Time" takes us back even further than last season's "Rewind," a full decade, to piece together a lot of things that need piecing.

Arriving at work the morning after the events of last week's installment, Donna and Louis are both surprised to see Harvey's name added to the wall. She goes straight to Harvey's office to ask him about it, but he's a bit blase about the whole thing. "Why didn't you tell me?" she asks, and he retorts that "Your focus hasn't been where it usually is." She infer...

'Suits': Are Harvey And Donna TV's Most Dynamic Duo?

August 20th, 2013 12:19pm EDT
Television has countless quality series on the air, and within many of those there are great duos that we love watching. Yet for our money, no show does it better than USA's Suits, and - while we wait with bated breath to see tonight's flashback episode that promises to dig into their history! - we submit that there is no greater partnership on the small screen than that between ace attorney Harvey Specter and his loyal assistant Donna Paulsen.

What makes us rank these two at the top of our list? They're everything you expect from a fantastic TV tandem and a few things you won't find anywh...

'Suits': Shadow of a Doubt (3x05)

August 15th, 2013 1:32am EDT
This week's episode of Suits took huge leaps forward with the primary plot arc of the season. While it was by no means a flawless episode, there were a lot of things about it that I truly enjoyed. I missed out on Harvey and Mike interaction, but the other relationship dynamics explored in this episode were important to touch upon as well.

Stephen tells Harvey that if he can get Ava off on her murder charges, his deal with Edward Darby will still be good. Harvey and Stephen team up, trying to prove that Cameron Dennis colluded with Tony Gianapolous. Although they seem to work together alrig...

'Suits' Recap: Harvey And Stephen Team Up, Fall Out

August 14th, 2013 8:31am EDT
Set 'em up, knock 'em down. That's what Suits is doing this week. After steadily building conflict to a turning point last time out, now it's time for some fireworks.

Harvey wants to know where Donna is, but if he knew, he probably wouldn't want to know. He thinks she's at the dentist, but we know that she's in bed with Stephen. Harvey doesn't have time to wait to further interrogate her. He and Mike are soon arguing a motion to dismiss in front of the presiding judge on the Hessington case, alongside Cameron and his ever-prevalent mustache. They can't get the case dismissed, but that wasn...

'Suits': Conflict of Interest (3x04)

August 8th, 2013 6:05am EDT
This week on Suits, we saw Ava Hessington's plot take important steps forward. We saw Jessica and Harvey's rivalry grow. We saw some interesting developments with Katrina. And... we saw some stuff that didn't need to be there at all. I can't say I walked away from this week's episode entirely thrilled, but I also wasn't disappointed. I'll start with a brief summary of the plot.

Harvey is working on Ava's murder case, while Louis works the Hessington Oil case. For the first time, we see in the way in which Hessington Oil and Ava Hessington are separate clients of the firm. This causes some ...

'Suits' Recap: A Power Struggle And A Love Connection

August 7th, 2013 8:39am EDT
After last week's morally uncomfortable revelations, it's back to business at Pearson Darby. With the events of the last few episodes officially getting messy for everyone involved, Suits spins an episode that plays many different characters off each other and lets us enjoyably see what happens.

Neither Harvey nor Louis are thrilled to find out the attempted takeover of Hessington Oil is coming to a head, with a vote for control of the company scheduled in 48 hours. They both hate the idea but, as usual, are coming at it from different perspectives. Louis and his new minion Katrina want Av...

'Suits': Unfinished Business (3x03)

July 31st, 2013 9:37pm EDT
Okay. I'm freaking out a little bit. I. Loved. This. Episode. Loved it. I had this huge smile on my face the whole time I was watching, and it just kept getting better and better as I watched. When it comes to Suits, any bromantic interaction between Harvey and Mike is like crack to me. Now, I don't particularly ship them in the romantic sense, but if I did, this episode would give me material up the wazoo. And as a girl who loves the brotherly dynamic between the two of them, this episode was so extremely exciting. And there were other exciting things too, including the case with Ava reall...

'Suits' Recap: A New Fixer In Town

July 31st, 2013 8:50am EDT
If you somehow thought things resolved themselves at the end of last week's Suits, you were wrong. This week, Cameron Dennis continues his meddling, while Pearson Darby is shaken up by the arrival of Stephen Huntley (Max Beesley, Hotel Babylon), the "British Harvey" from across the pond.

Things begin on a semi-lighter note, though, as Rachel has problems reaching high shelves and Louis doesn't like Mike stealing his bran bars (since, you know, he has a reason to be angry at Mike). After ranting a bit, he returns to his office and starts snapping at Harvey, who's there to get Louis's help a...

'Suits' Recap: Will Mike Become Louis's New Associate?

July 24th, 2013 8:32am EDT
After shaking things up last week with a merger and a special prosecutor, Suits gives us an episode titled after a Cheap Trick song. And it's a really appropriate title, because relationships are under a microscope here.

The action opens with a very surprised Donna, who's just been told by Harvey that he's planning to upend Jessica. "I just have one question," she asks. "Do I get my own office?" She's not entirely sure he's ready to do this, but she's excited about getting to beat up on Cameron Dennis. Things aren't so fun for everyone else. Mike enters and makes his umpteenth apology, but...

'Suits' Recap: Harvey Confronts Mike - And Someone From His Past

July 17th, 2013 7:24am EDT
When last we left Suits, things went a little crazy, with Pearson Hardman becoming Pearson Darby, Mike and Rachel getting back together in explosive fashion, and Harvey and Jessica at odds. Guess what? Things are still crazy.

A partners' meeting is called in the middle of the night, much to Mike's confusion. "Are you afraid of the dark?" Harvey quips, before explaining that we (as in the two of them) are finalizing the terms of the merger between firms. He goes on to say there's "nothing to forgive" between him and Jessica, and that he thinks Mike "did what you needed to do," but somehow w...

9 Teases For Tonight's Season Premiere Of 'Suits'

July 16th, 2013 10:31am EDT
Season two of Suits elevated the USA legal drama from guilty pleasure to one of the best written shows on television thanks to its focus on internal struggles, as opposed to outside forces.

Now, in season three, the show looks to tackle both at the same time, as internal problems are caused by, instigated by and pushed forward by an outside force—with a British accent.

We’ve seen the season premiere and here are nine teases for tonight’s first new episode in a few months:

1. Two days have passed since the last episode.

2. Someone contemplates quitting the firm, while someone else wants ...

'Suits' Season 3: 5 Spoilers You Need To Know

July 15th, 2013 1:30pm EDT
Summer television is about to get much more stylish when the acclaimed USA series "Suits" returns for its third season on July 16.  When we last left the legal drama, Pierce & Associaties had merged with a British law firm, Harvey (Gabriel Macht) was betrayed by Mike and Jessica, and Mike confessed his epic secret to Rachel.  Here are five spoilers you need to know before the Tuesday's premiere on USA Network at 10pm EST...

Donna might finally get her man.  The firm's sassiest assistant just may fall for a dapper, handsome, successful lawyer...that's not Harvey Specter. Entertainment W...

TV Characters We'd Want As Our BFF

July 13th, 2013 10:03am EDT
King of the Hill
Countless scenes in FOX's King of the Hill showed Hank Hill and his three best friends standing around in the alley, drinking beer and talking about whatever they wanted to. It got us thinking: which TV characters would we want as our BFFs? Here's BFTV's list of the top 10 fictional folks we'd like to be best friends with.

Before you check out our picks, let us set them up for you with the rules of the game:

1) The King of the Hill test: is this character really someone you'd want to spend hours in the alley with?

2) No more than one character from the same TV series

3) No more than one...

'Suits' Recap and Review: 'War' (Season Finale)

February 21st, 2013 11:21pm EST
Why does Suits have to end already? It's clear that this is the best-written show on television, and in particular, it knows how to deliver endings with a legitimate bang. "War" is another solid closer that has us already waiting for season three.

Mike and Jessica are having a very tetchy conversation in her office. Anything that involves him saying "Harvey will never forgive me" isn't good. But Jessica snaps back that Mike's problem isn't with Harvey - it's with her.

Six nights earlier, the whole of Pearson Hardman is at one expensive party, along with the members of the British firm the...

'Suits' and 4 Other Unexpected Shows That Have Us Yelling At The TV

February 21st, 2013 9:30am EST
Tonight is the season finale of USA's Suits, which is the best show on television. There are so many reasons to love it, like compelling characters played to near-perfection by an ensemble cast, led by Gabriel Macht and Patrick J. Adams. Then there are the plots. Courtroom drama has always been interesting to watch; that's how we sustained twenty seasons of NBC's Law & Order, after all. But Suits doesn't need to have court in session to be crackling. Whether a scene takes place in the halls of Pearson Hardman or on the streets of New York, it's good. So good, in fact, that we've caught ours...

'Suits' Recap: 'Normandy'

February 14th, 2013 11:10pm EST
In "Normandy," Suits continues its blast from the past, bringing back Dana "Scottie" Scott, Harvey Specter's former opponent and more-than-one-time flame. She's still got her eye on Harvey, but she's also still trying to beat him - and this time, she's brought reinforcements.

"We need to talk about resources," Harvey tells Jessica, wanting her to give him more resources to handle their 45 cases against Folsom Foods while she's dealing with a pile of bills. Seems the firm is in worse financial shape than he believed. Harvey's eyebrow ends up in the middle of his forehead. "We've got seven c...

'Suits' Recap: 'He's Back'

February 8th, 2013 9:15am EST
This week's Suits picks up with the bombshell from last week's episode - that Daniel Hardman has returned to be even more of a pain in everyone's behind.

As the show opens, he's taken over the gender discrimination class-action suit from Rachel's father Robert, deposing Sloane Moseley again, which irritates Harvey and Mike. Harvey gets even angrier when Hardman (still wonderfully, sleazily played by David Costabile) hands him a subpoena for a wrongful termination lawsuit against Pearson Hardman by Monica Eton, the woman Hardman was having an affair with while he was embezzling from the fir...

'Suits' Recap: 'Zane vs. Zane'

January 31st, 2013 11:05pm EST
With the first two episodes of Suits season 2.5 having addressed the major fallout at Pearson Hardman, it's time to dig back into the show's fantastic characters a bit more, starting with steely paralegal Rachel Zane.

Jessica interrupts Harvey and Mike's game of trash-can basketball to tell Harvey about the death of an opposing lawyer whom he describes as "a dick." When Harvey asks who's replacing the guy, the series abruptly cuts to Rachel having a birthday dinner with her father Robert (that's The Wire's Wendell Pierce), who informs her that he's taking over a gender discrimination case ...

'Suits' Recap: 'Blood in the Water'

January 24th, 2013 11:08pm EST
As audiences learned in last week's episode of Suits, things at Pearson Hardman are still very much in turmoil - so what better time than to re-introduce an old adversary?

Mike is starting to come around - at least he's cleaned up his apartment. At the firm, Donna meets Harvey at the elevators, pressing him for information about his date with Zoe. When she deduces said date didn't happen, she offers him ice cream, but Harvey is not amused. Donna moves on to tell him she has a meeting with somebody named Trent and also lets slip that Mike is not there yet, which irritates Harvey.

He goes t...

'Suits' Recap: 'Blind-Sided' (Midseason Premiere)

January 17th, 2013 11:30pm EST
With Thursday's midseason premiere, USA's Suits re-established why it is the best show on television - in fact, required viewing for anyone who loves TV.

Picking up a week after the midseason finale, "Blind-Sided" starts with Mike (Patrick J. Adams) still on emotional tilt, still getting high and still mixed up with his very much married old friend Tess (guest star Elisabeth Hower), the night before he's supposed to go back to work at Pearson Hardman.

The next morning, Harvey (Gabriel Macht) watches Daniel Hardman's name being scraped off the former managing partner's office wall, before ...
