August 24th, 2011 12:00pm EDT
Pan Am
Every fall TV season has its share of surprise successes and bumbling disappointments. For every buzzed-about newbie (‘Desperate Housewives’) that turns into a hit, there’s an ‘Eastwick’ or ‘Running Wilde.’

But that’s part of the fun, right? Sometimes, you’ve got to take a chance on a show that could be the year’s new hit and Emmy winner.

There are a lot of prospects for this Fall, and some are more promising than others. Here, though, are the Top 10 we’re most looking forward to – keeping in mind we haven’t seen these ahead of time. These are in no particular order.

Anatomy Of A TV Season: The Hits & Misses

April 15th, 2011 12:00pm EDT
Kathy Bates
It’s almost May Sweeps, and season finales will be upon us faster than the networks can cancel soaps. Let’s break it down, network by network, of what succeeded – and what flopped – this TV season.

NBC

Let’s start with the weakest network. After the ‘Jay Leno Show’ debacle last season, NBC is still scrambling to find original programming that will net decent ratings.

‘Law & Order: Los Angeles’ has proved a disappointment, as evidenced by its massive overhaul and return to floundering ratings. The comedy ‘Outsourced’ is on the bubble, and shows such as ‘Chase’ and ‘Undercovers’ bombed ...

Brittany's TCA 2011 Blog: FOX - 'Chicago Code,' 'American Idol,' 'Terra Nova,' & More

January 12th, 2011 12:00pm EST
Chicago Code
FOX had its Television Critics Association presentation Tuesday, and from my front-row (literally) seat, I confirmed what I felt has been the case for awhile: while the network has consistently strong dramas, it still needs to find some reliable comedies - at least when it comes to ones that aren't animated.

Here's how the day played out:

The Chicago Code

The highlight of my day was easily the presentation for Shawn Ryan's new drama, The Chicago Code (premiering February 7). Given Ryan's pedigree as the creator of The Shield, The Unit and the recently axed Terriers, the buzz - and the ex...

Fall TV: What's Surviving, What's Thriving, And What's Dying

November 11th, 2010 10:25am EST
Mike & Molly
We've reached a breaking point in the Fall TV season: almost everything that's still around will likely survive the season (key word: almost). It's becoming clearer which new shows are hits (hint: not many), and there are already several casualties. Let's run down the list.

The already renewed

CBS has picked up all five of their new shows: 'Hawaii Five-O,' 'Mike & Molly,' '@#$% My Dad Says,' 'Blue Bloods' and 'The Defenders.' Each show has performed admirably, but none can be called a runaway hit. CBS, though, has the least holes in its schedule and can be proud that viewership is up ...

Will Arnett
Will Arnett is urging fans to sign a petition to save his new show Running Wilde after it premiered to disappointing ratings last month.

The funnyman stars in the sitcom as an egocentric billionaire who tries to win back his high school sweetheart, played by Keri Russell. Executives at Fox network have ordered 13 episodes of Running Wilde, but the future of the comedy is uncertain as viewing figures continue to decline.

Arnett is now backing a fan campaign to save the series from the axe, signing a petition to keep the show in production and asking others to do the same.

In a post on ...

Fall TV Ratings: What's Hot, What's Not

October 8th, 2010 9:30am EDT
Cloris Leachman
We're only two weeks into the fall season, and we have two series cancellations. Let's see if we can keep up this "one canceled show a week" deal. For the record, the goners are FOX's 'Lone Star' and ABC's 'My Generation,' both of which got dismal ratings. Production was also halted on the Jimmy Smits drama 'Outlaw' and it's not looking good for ABC's 'The Whole Truth' either. By next week there will likely be more network victims.

As of this week, no huge new hits have emerged. FOX's 'Raising Hope' is doing fairly well following the hot 'Glee' and was awarded this week with a ...

Keri Russell jokes about baring all in the new issue of Esquire magazine.

She commented, "I just like to be naked as much as possible at all times."

Wilde is Will Arnett’s character, Steven Wilde, the son of an oil tycoon. Emmy (Russell) is his childhood sweetheart, who has become an environmentalist protesting Wilde Oil for displacing a tribe in the rainforest.

How does she stay fit for her work and posing naked for magazines? She runs and goes to pilates classes.

The prem...

Keri Russell is back on TV. After her starmaking drama Felicity, which also launched the behind the scenes talent of J.J. Abrams, Russell enjoyed a movie career in critical darlings like Waitress and blockbusters like Mission: Impossible III and Bedtime Stories. Now she’s costarring in the new Fox comedy Running Wilde, from Arrested Development creator Mitch Hurwitz.
