I suppose Jezebel James only wanted to stay for a short return. After a mere three episodes, and ratings that made "Arrested Development" look like "American Idol," FOX dropped the ax on what was once its hotly-anticipated sitcom "Jezebel James."

"The Return of Jezebel James" debuted this week with a two-part premiere featuring the pilot and the series' second episode. FOX, in their infinite wisdom, chose to bury these first two installments in the abyss of the Friday night timeslot, which is really a shame as the series begins on a very strong note.

Monday, March 17 Dancing With the Stars (ABC, 8 p.m.) - The men take center stage tonight as the sixth season kicks off. Another episode, featuring the female contestants, airs Tuesday at 9 p.m.

In this town (Los Angeles) and this industry (entertainment), there are a handful of strong, intelligent, funny women who - once they finally broke onto the radar - have worked consistently in equally strong, intelligent, funny roles.

Monday, March 10 Canterbury's Law (FOX, 8 p.m.) - Julianna Margulies (ER), she of the perfectly sculpted eyebrows and keeper of Doug Ross' heart, stars as a hard-edged lawyer in this show from producer Denis Leary.

FOX has ordered many of its current series back to production and has announced airdates for spring 2008. Among the series slated to return are Bones, Back To You, 'Til Death and House.

In light of the recently announced strike by The Writers Guild of America, FOX has revised its lineup for January and the remainder of the 2007-2008 season. (The new schedule is subject to change, pending resolution of the strike.)

Award-winning actress Dianne Wiest will have a recurring role on The Return Of Jezebel James, the new Amy Sherman-Palladino comedy premiering midseason on FOX. Wiest plays "Talia," the mother of Sarah (Parker Posey) and Coco (Lauren Ambrose) Tompkins.
