11/28/2014 9:29am EST
'Real World' Star Ryan Knight, 29, Found Dead On Thanksgiving Mo
"Real World New Orleans" star Ryan Knight was found dead at a friend's house early Thanksgiving morning.

The reality star, 29, partied with his pals on Wednesday and appeared to have choked on his own vomit, a friend told

Those who spent the evening with Knight prior to his death claim the star had taken "some pills."

Girlfriend Jemmye Carroll posted a collage of the two of them on Twitter:

Words will never be enough to justify the connection we shared and the pain I will forever feel. RIP @Knight_MTV

9 Spin-Off Shows That Were Real Hits

9 Spin-Off Shows That Were Real Hits
Remember what it was like when you were dedicated to one show only, you never missed an episode and hoped your favorite characters (or personalities) would get their turn in the spotlight? Well that did happen to these classic spin-offs, who found their niche in television history and rightly remain some of the most unique and diverse group of programming ever made for television.

1. "The Simpsons"

(Spun off of "The Tracey Ullman Show")

"The Simpsons" was a cartoon short utilized in the series "The Tracey Ullman Show" during its run from 1987-1990. The show took on a life of its own i...

'The Challenge : Rivals II' Episode 4 “Mortuusequusphobia”

8/1/2013 4:45am EDT
the Challenge : Rivals II
One of the most important things to remember when watching The Challenge is that the cast members don’t act or think the way that normal people do. The world of The Real World and The Challenge are completely different from the regular youth culture. Not only are they used to the attention of fame, they exist on a plane where only sex and alcohol matter.

That’s basically my way of trying to explain the strange behavior of the women in tonight’s episode. I think many of the relationships, fights, and nastiness have a lot to do with screen time.

Take Diem for example. She’s the perfect exa...

Reality TV star Joey Kovar has been found dead in Chicago, Illinois, aged 29.

The troubled former Real World: Hollywood star was discovered at a friend's home on Friday morning with blood coming out his ears and nose. Paramedics were called to help Kovar, but he was pronounced dead at the scene.

Few details about his passing were available as WENN went to press, but family members suspect drugs are to blame, according to

'The Real World: St. Thomas' Star LaToya Jackson: 'There's More To Me Than What You See'

6/27/2012 2:30pm EDT
Real World
"I'm a small-town girl with big-time dreams," said The Real World: St. Thomas cast member LaToya Jackson during our recent interview. Before you ask, she's not related to the infamous Jackson family whatsoever. Rather, she's a spunky 22-year-old from Petersburg, Virginia, where "everybody pretty much knows everybody. There's approximately 35,000 people. It's not hard to run into an old classmate at any given moment.

"I never really got out of my home state," she continued. "I went to Virginia State University, where I recently graduated from. I took a job at a local news station in Richmon...

'The Real World: St. Thomas' Star Brandon Swift: 'I'm Not a Fan of Drama'

6/27/2012 11:30am EDT
Real World
There's certain to be a lot of drama on MTV's The Real World: St. Thomas, which premieres tonight at 10 PM ET/PT. Just don't expect cast member Brandon Swift to enjoy it.

"I really am such a happy person that just loves being around people. I'm not a fan of drama," said the outgoing 22-year-old from Edison, New Jersey during our interview yesterday. "I do respect all types of people and every person. I really try to be honest and real, and try to look out for everybody's best interests. I hope that everybody can see that."

In fact, he wasn't interested in appearing on Real World at all wh...

Interview: Teck Holmes Chats About His Versatile Career

4/28/2011 5:00pm EDT
Teck Holmes
Ever wonder where the reality TV craze started? Well, a good possibility is MTV's The Real World. After appearing on that show's wildly popular first season in 1999, Teck Holmes has tried his hand at a variety of different roles in show business, from actor to DJ to, currently, the host of Cartoon Network's version of the game show Hole In The Wall. Teck sat down with me Thursday to talk about life after reality TV and all of the opportunities that have come since.

Since you're the host of Hole In The Wall, I can ask you the question my family blurts out every time we watch the show...

Hollywood Unwrapped: Must Not See TV

4/15/2011 8:43am EDT
I have a question to ask all of the readers of this column. Do we really have Hollywood stars or real actors that we had in the past? Gone are the days when studios had an iron claw on the stars and being a celebrity actually meant something.

Yes, today we still have a handful of Academy Award winning movie stars such as Meryl Streep, George Clooney, Tom Hanks, and Clint Eastwood. We don’t have stars like Steve McQueen, James Dean or an Audrey Hepburn. But that's on the big screen.

Today, television is packed with reality shows that makes us lose brain cells and it seems like we be...

Reality TV Spotlight: What's New And What's Returning In 2011

1/13/2011 11:37am EST
american idol
In my mind, there are four kinds of reality TV. There are the competition shows (“Top Model,” “The Apprentice” and “Project Runway”), personality/family shows (“Jersey Shore,” “Real Housewives” and “Sister Wives”), home improvement shows (pretty much everything on HGTV) and occupational shows (pretty much everything on TLC). Some of these shows are trashy, some are inspiring, and they are all, to some degree, entertaining.

Ace of Cakes - Food Network, (started) Jan. 6, Thurs at 10
Given the choice between “Ace of Cakes” and “Cake Boss,” choose “Ace of Cakes” every time. Duff, the owner ...

Poplopedia: Former 'Real World' Cast Member Brings The Drama To 'Basketball Wives 2'

11/11/2010 12:59pm EST
Basketball Wives
A former reality star from “The Real World” helps to bring the drama that reality fans have grown to love on the new season of “Basketball Wives 2.”

Some of us have come to accept that the women, who appeared on the first season of “Basketball Wives,” hardly count as actual wives of ballplayers. They were either ex-girlfriends/wives or baby mothers of players (with probably one “wife” actually being a wife), but fans of the show didn’t really mind the contradiction in cast members because the entertaining feuds that this guilty pleasure programming offered sufficed.

The new season of “Bas...

Hottest Summer Reality Shows

6/28/2010 9:17am EDT
Top Chef
The first step is admitting you have a problem - a television addiction problem. It's the summer and whether you're on school break or have a full-time job you should be taking advantage of the weather and enjoying the beach. Yet day after day and night after night you find yourself parked on the couch switching back and forth between watching Jillian Michaels kick someone's butt into shape and those damn guidos on Jersey Shore.

We all have our guilty pleasures in life, some may chose gossip magazines and some prefer a pint a Ben and Jerry's ice cream. We'd rather sit back and indulge in a...

Anna David On 'Reality Matters'

4/5/2010 1:58pm EDT
Anna David Reality Matters
What do you get when you give a dozen writers who are hooked on reality television a pen and paper? Reality Matters. The book, edited by Anna David, is a brilliant compilation of essays by various writers coming clean about the reality shows they can’t stop watching. Why do we love this genre? Why are we glued to the TV every week as if our lives would end if we didn’t see who The Bachelor picked as his bride-to-be, or which wannabe star got the boot on American Idol? The book explores such shows like The Real Housewives of New York City, The Hills, Married by America, Project Runway, The O...

Hopes For 2010

1/5/2010 12:00pm EST
Hopes for 2010
It's a new year, and it's time to dump the Top Ten lists and look forward to the things we hope to see in the near future. What do we want to see more of? What do we want to see end? Who do we want to see naked? The questions are endless, so here goes:

I hope Megan Fox reconsiders her "no nudity on camera" stance. Halle Berry showed frontal in Swordfish, then did an explicit sex scene in Monster's Ball, and then she got an Oscar. Just saying.

I hope Lost doesn't fall into its disturbingly common habit of making absolutely no sense for episodes at a time. I also hope the finale is rev...

Meet 'Real World: D.C.' Star Erika

12/30/2009 11:00am EST
Matt Anaya
Erika Lauren Wasilewski stars in MTV's 23rd installment of The Real World. This season the cast takes on Washington, DC and according to Erika, it is more than just making out in public.

Erika is a Midwestern girl who grew up in Chicago and recently graduated from a Chicago art school who loves to rock and loves her adoring boyfriend. She started dating her BF three months before she left for the show and has dealt with depression but worked around both to become a strong independent young woman with big city dreams.

Starpulse caught up with Erika during the holiday season and take ...

'Real World: D.C.' Star Emily Schromm Talks About The New Season

12/28/2009 4:40pm EST
Real World DC
"The Real World: D.C." premieres Wednesday, December 30, on MTV. 21-year-old bisexual Midwestern girl Emily Schromm stars in the 23rd installment. She got a slow start in life but is now making up for lost time. To call her adventurous is an understatement - a better word would be daring. A tomboy at heart, Emily was not been able to venture outside of Missouri for most of her life, but she's now interested in snowboarding, skydiving, rock climbing and, of course, both genders.

Starpulse: Why do you think MTV picked you for "The Real World D.C.?"

Emily: That is a good question. I am ...

The Ten Greatest Of The Decade: TV Shows

12/14/2009 9:30am EST
Best TV Of The Decade
As the decade reaches its conclusion, you'll undoubtedly come across many lists. Lists that purport to tell you the best, the top, the cream of the decade as they relate to pop culture. You're also certain to come across many lists that claim to rank the "greatest" of the ten year period from 2000-2009. But what does that really mean?

"Greatest" should be something entirely different from what we usually associate with these lists. Mostly, these lists claim to rank the best - something that is only truly possible were a listmaker to, say, see every single movie in a given decade. If...

Reality TV Roundup: Fashion Week, Boring 'Model,' & More

10/9/2009 2:44pm EDT
Rachel Zoe
The week in reality TV: Rachel Zoe went to Paris Fashion week and it was obviously bah-na-nas. Audrina ditched a lunch date with Kristen, uh oh, major drama. America's Next Top Model remains a snoozer, and Wes on MTV's The Ruins might need to relax a little.

The Rachel Zoe Project (Mondays on Bravo) continues to be one of our favorite reality TV shows, and possibly the best show on TV. But this week was rather boring as Rachel went to Paris Fashion week with Brad instead of Taylor.

We all know the story behind Brad going and Taylor not and obviously Taylor begrudgingly let Brad go an...

Reality TV Roundup: Stephanie Pratt Leaving Hills And Lots More Drama

10/5/2009 3:45pm EDT
Stephanie Pratt
Sorry about the delay readers but here is the quickest recap from last week's debauchery in reality TV.

First let's start with the premiere week on MTV featuring the Real World Road Rules Challenge: The Ruins. For the first time in two seasons nobody was kicked off the first episode for fighting! An accomplishment reached because fan favorite C.T. is not on this season's cast and although I think it is silly he is not on the cast, I am sure they begged him to be on the show.

A love pentagon involving Wes, Kenny, Johanna, Cohutta, and KellyAnne, which already made things very interesti...

Weekly Reality TV Roundup

9/14/2009 9:50am EDT
Let's take a look at some highlights of what reality TV had to offer us last week as we move into a new week of reality antics.

The Rachel Zoe Project (Mondays Bravo 9PM CST).

Rachel Zoe has become one of my favorite reality stars. She is very cool, smart, funny and she likes to have a good time. This week Rachel was in charge of Anne Hathaway at the Oscars but she left her assistant Brad in charge. Although he struggled at last season's Oscars Brad did just fine this week and he was humbled at the opportunity Rachel gave him.

In between a chaotic Oscar week and drama with assis...

Reality Roundup: 'Jon & Kate,' 'Hell's Kitchen' & More

9/8/2009 9:27am EDT
Anne Hathaway
Although Reality TV is supposed to be real it is actually intended to help people escape reality and laugh at other people's misadventures. The trashier the concept the better the show, except some of those VH1 shows are obnoxious.

I am more about shows like "The Real World," "My Big Fat Obnoxious Fiance," or my new favorite show "Rehab: Party at the Hard Rock Hotel."

If you missed any of your favorite reality shows last week, I am here to give a short synopsis of what went down:

Jon & Kate Plus 8 (Monday 8 p.m. CST TLC)

Everyone's favorite family, the Gosselins, had some fun a...

'The Real World' Continues To Mix The Mundane & Ridiculous

7/19/2009 9:01am EDT
The Real World
MTV, please go back to the days when The Real World resembled anything that could be classified as "real." Case in point: the current season of "The Real World" is set in the usual controlled environment yet all things being equal, putting a "let's see how personalities react together" show in this location is laughable. Cancun? The first thing that pops to mind with Cancun usually isn't "real." It's like the poor college kid's Vegas - which MTV has already graced with the presence of their "first soap opera."

The show originally was MTV's version of a soap opera. The experiment began in...

Jon Gosselin's New Girlfriend Wants To Be A Star & May Be Bisexual

7/17/2009 10:55am EDT
Jon Gosselin
According to, Jon Gosselin's new party-animal girlfriend, Hailey Glassman, "is bisexual," one of her college pals confirms. "She's open about it, and I've seen it happen," the friend goes on.

"Guys have just been hookups," the classmate tells the website. Hailey is more serious about women than men: "With girls, there have been actual relationships."

And the Jon & Kate Plus 8 star doesn't seem to mind. "He's excited to live this new lifestyle," a pal says.

The article also reveals that the wannabe reality star (she tried out for MTV's Real World and Oxygen's Bad Gir...

MTV Movie Awards Red Carpet: 'Twilight' Stars, 'Hills' Cast & More

6/1/2009 8:39am EDT
Kristen Stewart
MTV's awards shows have become something of a spectacle in the last few years from controversial performances to surprise celebrity events leading up to and surrounding the actual show. That would explain why neither this year's MTV Movie Awards host Andy Samberg nor "We Made You" performer Eminem, had time to walk the red carpet at the Gibson Amphitheatre at Universal Studios Citywalk last night.

Those that did smile and pose for paparazzi and walk the line of nearly 200 media outlets all hoping to steal a precious few minutes with the talent included the other musical act, Kings of ...

Man Watches 'The Bachelor'... Questions His Masculinity

2/17/2009 2:56pm EST
The Bachelor
I'm just going to come out and admit it: I love watching "The Bachelor". I feel comfortable in declaring this in part because shortly after watching the last episode there was a Facebook status update where a guy had shh'd his girlfriend for talking during one of the critical points. So apparently I'm not the only guy who watches "The Bachelor". For starters, let me just say that you have no idea how great this makes me feel-there are sporadic times throughout a man's life when he questions his own masculinity, and for me this probably was one of those times-because I can take solace in kno...

Is There Any Reality Left In Reality TV?

2/17/2009 9:02am EST
The Bachelor
Writers and producers from many shows including "Laguna Beach," "The Bachelor," and, the granddaddy of them all, "The Real World," have admitted that their shows are either partially scripted and/or edited to manufacture storylines. And even before they admitted it, most of us knew for a long time that the term "reality TV" was kind of an oxymoron.

But remember when the first season of "The Real World" premiered 17 years ago? Some of you who are fans of the show now may have still been in diapers back then, but hopefully you've had an opportunity to see its beginnings. If you have, yo...

Spotlight On Reality Stars Who Want To Be Legitimate Actors...But Fail

12/1/2008 11:45am EST
Paris Hilton
Recent photos snapped on the set of the 2009 Demi Moore/David Duchovny film "The Joneses" features some reality stars. These photos show two very big reality television personalities playing even bigger versions of themselves to match the upgrade in screen size: Kim Zolciak and Sheree Whitfield from Bravo's "The Real Housewives of Atlanta."

"The Joneses" is about a family who moves into a prestigious community only to peddle very specific products. They are an affluent, powerful, popular family, so everyone else wants to follow their lead and "keep up with the Joneses," hence the titl...

Look! I'm A TV Star!

9/24/2008 10:00am EDT
The Hills
People used to believe in fictional television. They didn't believe that it was real, simply that it was an honest fabrication of reality, a mild funhouse reflecting life as it is lived. They watched whether they could identify with it or not; they watched to imagine the lives they saw on the screen. Some still do. But others, a growing majority, watch reality television; they take comfort in the truthful depictions, no, profiles of the lives of others. These shows cannot be melodramatic, cannot be dismissed as over-the-top like Grey's Anatomy. They are "real."

America's fascination wi...

Reality TV Overload

8/11/2008 8:45am EDT
Project Runway
What happened to the days when movie stars were in fact stars in major motion pictures and when being an actor meant you actually had talent? What about when game show contestants were just game show contestants, not famous people?

Now it seems like you can't turn on the television without seeing a reality show, a preview for a reality show, or a reality show "star" in his or her new movie. When is it going to stop? It's reality TV overload! Some shows aren't that bad and are actually tolerable, but then there are shows like "Sunset Tan" on E! that make you want to rip your eyes out.

Jim Boggia's 'Misadventures in Stereo' Out Aug. 5

8/3/2008 3:30pm EDT
Jim Boggia
Misadventures In Stereo, the third album by widely lauded singer/songwriter/multi-instrumentalist Jim Boggia, is unmistakably the work of a true believer and pop craftsman who's closely acquainted with music's capacity for transcendent uplift. His confessional, deeply personal lyrics tap into the deepest and most universal of human emotions. Born blind in one eye and with limited vision in the other, Boggia grew up an only child with an acutely developed ear for music. His early fascination for such iconoclastic pop classics as the Kinks' Village Green Preservation Society, Nilsson Sings N...
