The Wanted Victims Of A Kidnapping Prank

4/11/2012 2:26pm EDT
The Wanted
The Wanted became victims of a cruel prank when they were charged with kidnapping an 11-year-old fan.

The band stopped thinking the drama was a practical joke when it dragged on for two hours and U.S. police forces got involved.

However, the members of the British boy band were more than a little relieved when they learned the whole thing had been set up for MTV show Punk'd.

Singer Max George reveals it all started when they met a young fan moments before a show in America and then confronted the girl's worried father later when he asked them if they knew where his daughter was.

Neil Patrick Harris and David Burtka
Punk'd has a good track record of successfully tricking celebrities, but Neil Patrick Harris apparently caught on to a recent attempt by the revived MTV show.

Although the messages have since been deleted (perhaps to keep the failure a secret), NPH tweeted "Rock climbing with @Davidburtka today. Chill Sunday fun." Maybe his partner was in on the prank?

Later on, however, he messaged his fans with "So the rock climbing was a ruse to try and have me Punk'd. Nice try, MTV. It'll take more than a live bear destroying my car to fool NPH."

It's not the first time a prank has failed. Wrestler...

While the cable networks still lag far behind the broadcast networks in the ratings department (well, four of them anyway), they have made great strides in terms of matching, and often times exceeding, the big dogs when it comes to quality original programming.

At no time of the year is this trend more evident than in the summer. While the broadcast networks are unsurprisingly going with a bevy of unscripted fare (including entirely too many reality competition shows), the cable networks are once again proving to be the place to turn for quality, original, SCRIPTED programming.
