Outlaw Star, Episode 02: World of Desire

Gene and Jim join forces with Hilda, an outlaw who intruded into the first episode. Together, they challenge mystical Tao pirates in order to maintain possession of a beautiful, enigmatic girl named Melfina. Melfina arrived, quite literally, as part of Hilda's baggage, and she seems to need some time to gather herself. Using his 'caster gun and an eclectic collection of special munitions, Gene holds off the Tao pirates long enough for the group to escape in Hilda's drop ship. What's not easy is deciphering the reasons Melfina was resuscitated, and the girl herself is no help at all. Jim does his best to help his friend and partner Gene get over the stigma of being a "Space Cherry" -- that is, someone who has never been into space before. Gene's too preoccupied with his own troubles to help fight off a group of nasty pirates. Escaping, the band of adventurers makes its way to an asteroid called Blue Heaven for repairs and advice. Blue Heaven is a "free town" and a notorious hangout for outlaws. En route, Gene's dreams reveal part of his past. Dock specialists Swanzo and Mikey stock Horus and provide some information for Hilda and some general guidelines about being in a "free town." Jim helps Melfina get a makeover. Gene pumps Hilda for information on her mission. After gadflying about, the evening's sleeping accommodations are very accommodating. Pirates attack again with mixed results. Confronted by a pirate's robo, Gene finds he has to switch tactics now that he can't use his trusty shooting irons. Tom Carroll, All Movie Guide
