As the title indicates, this cable TV reality series was geared toward country & western fans. Out of 8,000 applicants, 12 finalists were chosen to vie in a music-talent elimination contest, telecast live each week for nine weeks from the stage of the BellSouth Acuff Theater in Nashville's Opryland. Whoever made the final cut was awarded a recording contract, with his or her first album produced by singer Clint Black, the series' creative consultant. Hosted by Access Hollywood's Nancy O'Dell, Nashville Star debuted March 8, 2003. Hal Erickson, All Movie Guide
