Kevin Murphy On RiffTrax's Return To National Geographic
Have you ever thought to yourself that TV would be more interesting with a commentary track? Well, the folks at National Geographic did.

They've once again enlisted the kings of aftermarket commentary - Michael J. Nelson, Kevin Murphy and Bill Corbett, collectively known as RiffTrax - to lend their gentle wit to two hours of NatGeo Wild programs.

Total Riff Off airs tonight, and Kevin recently dropped in from back East to talk to us about RiffTrax's second NatGeo go-around as well as the recent RiffTrax Live show.

The guys started December off with their usual RiffTrax Live holiday show,...

Michael J. Nelson Celebrates Halloween With 'RiffTrax Live: Anac
Halloween is about scares, and what's more scary than a terrible movie with a ridiculous snake? The hilarious trio at RiffTrax - Michael J. Nelson, Bill Corbett and Kevin Murphy - are celebrating the holiday this Thursday by skewering the 1997 Jennifer Lopez adventure flick Anaconda, and Mike spoke to me last week about the joys of riffing a half-cocked monster movie and his plans for Halloween night.

For those of you who haven't yet seen Anaconda, you're in for a treat. "I think the linchpin of the whole thing is, in the third act there's a shot of the boat going away from an Amazon water...

RiffTrax vs. Sharknado: Michael J. Nelson Previews Skewer Of SyF
Yesterday, we brought you our list of 10 Movies So Bad, They're Good - well, no one knows a bad movie like Michael J. Nelson. He endured them for years as one of the stars of Mystery Science Theater 3000 and currently, alongside his friends and fellow MST3K vets Kevin Murphy and Bill Corbett, makes them bearable for us as RiffTrax. This week, the RiffTrax guys are taking on one of their best choices over: SyFy's cult sea life-disaster movie, Sharknado. We chatted with Mike recently to ask him how such a feat of genius happened.

"It was funny. We were deluged with people, even before it cam...

December 2nd, 2013 12:22pm EST
Kevin Murphy
Because making you snort Coke on Halloween wasn't enough, the RiffTrax gang is back with another RiffTrax Live! show for Christmas. And since we've already harangued his fellow Riffers Bill Corbett and Mike Nelson, this seemed like a great opportunity for the awesome Kevin Murphy to join the party. Kevin called up BFTV to explain just what RiffTrax plans to do with Santa Claus Conquers The Martians.

"It's a fun thing to do, and oddly enough, it's sort of a tradition that we do somethng around the holidays," he explained. "Personally, I haven't visited Santa Claus Conquers The Martians sinc...

Bill Corbett
The RiffTrax guys are at it again. On the heels of their successful deconstruction of Starship Troopers, the hilarious trio are bringing us a Halloween-themed show with their take on the original Night of the Living Dead. To set the stage for this insanity, BFTV called up our favorite riffer Bill Corbett, who clued us in to what he and his partners-in-crime Michael J. Nelson and Kevin Murphy have on tap for us next Thursday.

Die-hard fans will recall that Bill, Mike and Kevin have already riffed on this flick, so why repeat themselves for the live event? "We wanted a Halloween-themed show ...

Twihards may want to take cover. RiffTrax - the comedy threesome of (from left) Bill Corbett, Kevin Murphy and Michael J. Nelson - have decided that the first flick in the blockbuster vampire romance franchise is the next one they want to take on for their "RiffTrax Live!" series, in which they provide hilarious commentary for a film.

The trio have already secured more than $78,000 in funding via a Kickstarter project in hopes of being able to license Twilight from Summit Entertainment and Lionsgate so that they can simulcast it live to theaters nationwide for a future "RiffTrax Live!" pre...

Bill Corbett
Since 1988, when they made failures fun on Mystery Science Theater 3000, no one has been better at pointing out the great things about bad movies than the three gentlemen who make up RiffTrax - Mike Nelson, Bill Corbett and Kevin Murphy. Their hilarious commentaries have had film buffs rolling in the aisles and at home over and over again.

As Fathom Events brings two of Rifftrax's best cuts - Manos: The Hands of Fate and Plan 9 From Outer Space - back to theaters for rebroadcast on two consecutive weeks, Bill Corbett sat down with BFTV to chat about the art of riffing on less than stellar ...

July 27th, 2012 9:17am EDT
Buffy The Vampire Slayer
Fans just can't get enough of vampires. Today it's "Twilight," but not too long ago it was "Buffy The Vampire Slayer," which tops a new magazine list of the 25 Best Cult TV Shows from the past 25 years.

The Joss Whedon-helmed series ran for 144 episodes between March 1997 and May 2003, and is number one on Entertainment Weekly's new poll. The show was a mixture of drama, comedy, romance, action, and horror.

"Buffy" centered on the exploits of its titular vampire slayer, a mystical "Chosen One" living in Sunnydale, Calif., an idyllic small town situated atop the mouth to hell. Buffy (Sarah...

31 Days Of Horror: Rifftrax Live - 'House On Haunted Hill'

October 29th, 2010 5:02pm EDT
Rifftrax Live
One of the things that make you really appreciate the talent of professional movie riffers and former Mystery Science Theater 3000 stars Mike Nelson, Kevin Murphy and Bill Corbett is attending one of their live Rifftrax events. The trio plucks a movie and a few shorts out of public domain, jump up on stage and rip right into them, simulcasting their performance to theaters across the country. The model seems to work pretty well for the beloved wiseacres—based on the screenings I’ve attended I’d wager that they do better than The Met or the Prairie Home Companion’s simulcasts, at least. A Viewers Guide To Bad Movies. Really Bad Movies!

June 16th, 2009 10:58am EDT
Troll II
During this year's SxSW festival, a small documentary titled Best Worst Movie premiered to an enthusiastic reception. The film, directed by former child actor Michael Stephenson, follows the production of a small independently financed Italian-cum-American horror film titled Troll 2. Starring no one, and directed by an Italian exploitation film director with a scatter-shot grasp on English and titles like a Terminator knock off titled Terminator 2 under his belt (the title rights were available in Italy), the 1990 film was released direct-to-video and promptly faded from existence. The acto...

The Twelve Episodes of Christmas Television Gave To Us

December 14th, 2008 12:00pm EST
Mystery Science Theater 3000
Every year around this time, holiday specials fall on network TV like snowflakes, a comforting blanket of tradition and familiarity. But while those classics may be festive enough for some, we prefer a more modern take on the holiday season. From the heart-warming to the hilarious to the possibly offensive, here are twelve holiday-themed episodes from some of my favorite contemporary shows that put me in the Christmas spirit:

"Forgiveness and Stuff" (Gilmore Girls, Season 1 Episode 10)

Though the foundation of Gilmore Girls is the inseparable mother-daughter duo, the ...
