Tom Cruise is no longer starring in the movie adaptation of cult TV series "The Man From U.N.C.L.E."

According the The Hollywood Reporter, the actor's deal was never closed, and he walked away from the project. Cruise was supposed to play American agent Napoleon Solo opposite Armie Hammer in director Guy Ritchie's film.
 
Hammer will play Solo's Soviet sidekick Illya Kuryakin, and Swedish actress Alicia Vikander is in talks to play the female lead.

Tom Cruise is in talks to star in The Man From U.N.C.L.E.. The Jack Reacher actor is in early negotiations to star in the big screen adaptation of the cult 1960s TV show, which sees agents Napoleon Solo and Illya Kuryakin fighting the evil of Thrush as part of the United Network Command for Law Enforcement, Deadline reports.

The film is due to be directed by Sherlock Holmes filmmaker Guy Ritchie, who stepped in after Steven Soderbergh departed the project.

Plans for a movie adaptation of cult 1960s spy series "The Man From U.N.C.L.E." have been thrown into doubt - director Steven Soderbergh has quit the project just days after Bradley Cooper dropped out of the lead role.

George Clooney had initially been touted to portray Robert Vaughn's iconic spy character Napoleon Solo in a proposed film version of the TV show, and when he dropped out, Cooper was slated to take his place.

The Hangover star walked away from the job this week - and now Soderbergh has followed him out the door.

Bradley Cooper has been offered the chance to replace Robert Vaughn as "The Man From U.N.C.L.E." after George Clooney dropped out, according to a report.

Steven Soderbergh is set to remake the classic TV show for the big screen, and Clooney reportedly signed up to step into the role of Napoleon Solo, made famous by Vaughn.

However, Clooney has since exited the project and the director has now offered the part to "The Hangover" star Cooper, according to Variety.

The film is reportedly set to start shooting in the spring.

Moviemaker Steven Soderbergh is in negotiations to take on The Man From U.N.C.L.E. TV franchise and turn it into a major new movie.

The Oscar winner has met with Warner Bros. executives about the adaptation, according to the Hollywood Reporter.

Soderbergh's "The Informant!" screenwriter Scott Z. Burns is also onboard to pen a new script.
