Burt Buchman (Louis Zorich), father of our hero Paul Buchman (Paul Reiser), lands in the hospital, the probable victim of a possible heart attack. Paul's wife, Jamie (Helen Hunt), takes advantage of Burt's brief absence to forge a tighter bond with Paul's acerbic mother, Sylvia (Cynthia Harris), making her Mad About You debut.
