This short-lived TV series was a spin-off of the popular 1989 miniseries of the same name. The characters are based on those in the novel (also titled -Lonesome Dove) by Pulitzer Prize-winning author Larry McMurtry. The Western follows the dramatic adventures and misadventures of young Texas Ranger Newt Dobbs, played by Scott Bairstow. The series also stars Christianne Hirt, Eric McCormack (now known for his lead role on Will and Grace), Diahann Carroll, and Billy Dee Williams. Jessica Frost, All Movie Guide
