An infant's body is found at an area hospital, and Detective Superintendent Ronnie Brooks and Detective Superintendent Matt Devlin delve into the heartbreaking investigation. It is discovered that a heater in the mother's apartment was purposely sabotaged to try and drive out tenants in order to let more wealthy developers in. The gas from the heater is what caused the infant's death, so the manager of the building is charged with a crime.
A teen is horrifically beaten to death, and Brooks and Devlin wade through a complicated investigation involving the victim's foster family. When the murderer is apprehended, the defense attests that he is genetically predisposed to violence, and therefore not responsible for his actions.
An ex-vice cop is found beaten to death, and Brooks and Devlin soon find the officer had some serious skeletons in his closet that may have led to his demise.
Brooks and Devlin reopen an eight year old murder case when they find a body. The man originally convicted is given the right to appeal and ends up representing himself in court.
