Mia Lorimer claims she was raped to hide being abused by her husband, Brett Lorimer. Jonah and Linnie Malcolm, tenants of the couple in question, are aware of the abuse, but fail to come forward for fear of being evicted. With the help of Linnie, Detective Benson gets Mia to admit that she had been beaten by Brent, and sends her to a women's shelter. Brett is arrested and makes bail, only for Mia to return to her husband and drop all charges. Detective Benson hides in the stairway of the Lorimer home, when she comes across another case of spousal abuse and possible murder.
Pediatrician Gilbert Keppler is found guilty of sexually assaulting four of his male patients. Soon after his trial, his attorney Lionel Granger informs the detectives that Keppler will be suing the NYPD and the Denslow Medical Center on the grounds that they knew he was sexually abusing patients long before they took any action to stop him. Detectives Elliot Stabler and Olivia Benson decide to go directly to Keppler for questioning only to find him murdered in his apartment. To the detectives' surprise, ADA Alexandra Cabot shows up at the crime scene, after three years in the witness protection program. The SVU team must put the past and lost time behind them in order to solve the case.
The body of a fourteen year-old girl is found floating in the Hudson River. Detectives Olivia Benson and Elliot Stabler think the young girl was smuggled into the country by sex traffickers. In an effort to find out the young girl's identity, Detective Benson goes undercover and busts sex trafficker Alik. When Alik makes a deal, he identifies the body as Elsa Lychkoff. Elsa wasn't a prostitute, but a child prodigy. The detectives investigate the young girl's elite boarding school and her roommate Jennifer Banks, who in turn, leads them to Joseph Lychkoff, Elsa's father. However, Detective Odafin Tutuola discovers some new evidence that could change the whole case.
When a young woman is found trespassing in a family's home, Detective Elliot Stabler is called in. But when the intruder's wallet is found in the home, it leads Stabler to his own home, as he discovers his own daughter may be the perpetrator. Detective Stabler is shocked to find his daughter has been hanging around the same kinds of people he's made a career out of arresting. Stabler must decide how far he will go to save Kathleen, even turning to his mother for help. Detective Olivia Benson knows that she must help her friend and partner before it's too late.
A young girl, Miriam Burdett, is found in an alley, with her throat cut and evidence of repeated rape and physical abuse. When asked to write who attacked her, because of her inability to speak, she draws a picture of the devil. When Detective Munch investigates, he finds several reports of a local priest, Father Theo Burdett, who neighbors claim is a devil worshipper.
After famous astronaut Marga Janssen's corpse is found afloat in the waters of Battery Park, Detectives Elliot Stabler and Olivia Benson initially believe the murder is linked to a string of serial rapes. Upon further investigation, this theory is proven false when their suspect's alibi checks out. At a dead end, Detective Stabler turns to his old mentor and former colleague of Janssen's, NASA astronaut Dick Finley, to shed some light on the case. Finley's advice exposes several more suspects, but possibly takes the detectives further from the truth.
A man is found badly injured with no idea what could have happened to him. Detectives Olivia Benson and Elliot Stabler have a hard time finding evidence after a storm washes away the crime scene. A fake fingernail found in the victim's back suggests that his attacker may have been female. Detective Benson and Stabler turn to the dancers of the strip club where the incident took place, but a homeless man, Sid Gabbert, tells the detectives to check the victim's truck. After finding some evidence inside of the truck, the detectives learn that the victim, Mark Van Kuren, was a repo-man that was sent to reclaim the car of a strip club dancer, Molly "Misty" Lambert. But after questioning the dancer, Van Kuren awakes and asks that the detectives question his ex-wife Ellen and their 13-year-old transgender son Henry.
When a case involving a baby infected with AIDS is brought to the attention of Dr. Raye Massey, Detectives Elliot Stabler and Olivia Benson are called in to investigate. The detectives seek the help of Dr. Melinda Warner, a member of an AIDS surveillance team along with Dr. Massey. Dr. Warner investigates the baby's medical case, but Detectives Stabler and Benson, upon further investigation, discover that the baby was prescribed vitamins by Dr. Gideon Hutton, who operates a "voodoo" medical practice. After the detectives look for more answers, similar cases of AIDS surface, including the death of Susan Ross' daughter. Susan's 18-year-old son Tommy also gets pulled into the case, forcing him to decide whether to take on his mother's belief in homeopathic medicine. Ultimately, Dr. Warner's medical research and testimony lead to Dr. Hutton's practices being called into question.
When a tourist is found dead in Central Park with the word "guilty" written across her forehead, Detectives Olivia Benson and Elliot Stabler recover photos from the victim's camera. With the help of crime scene unit technician Dale Stuckey, they discover that former artist Peter Harrison was at the park during the crime. After arresting Harrison for questioning, the detectives leave Detectives John Munch and Fin Tutuola to keep Harrison under close surveillance, but when Harrison suddenly escapes, Detective Munch must turn to his ex-wife Gwen for help.
Detective Elliot Stabler takes the case of a young woman, brutally killed and carrying a rare bird species in her purse. Dr. Melinda Warner presents shocking evidence, the saliva found in the cuts on the victim's body shows she was attacked by a tiger. Oscar Assadorian takes the detectives to the victim's twin sister, Anna Bleers who in turn leads the detectives to Hip Hop artist, Gots Money. Gots, who has already admitted to working for an animal smuggling ring, cooperates with investigators, and goes undercover with Detective Stabler to catch the smugglers, Andre Bushido and Tybor.
After an up-and-coming artist is brutally murdered in her apartment, Detectives Odafin Tutuola and Elliot Stabler link her death to another unsolved murder case. As they pursue the case further, they realize that these two murders have striking similarities to a string of murders by a mysterious serial killer that Detective Victor Moran has been following for months. Moran fights to keep his control over the case as Detectives Fin and Stabler struggle to find the killer.
Heather Hallander returns home after being reported missing for four years. Heather tells Detectives Olivia Benson and Elliot Stabler about the cement cell where she was a sex slave, and of her escape. Heather's sister, Erica Hallander, is relieved to see her sister after launching a website asking for tips, but, Nikki Hallander, Heather's other sister, appears to be annoyed with her return. Benson and Stabler drive Heather around town to help stir up any memories of her abduction. However, the detectives find revealing evidence that make them question Heather's kidnapping and identity.
Detectives Elliot Stabler and John Munch investigate a case in which a boy was set on fire. The Detectives find themselves at Blessed Heart High School, where their student escort, Max Matarazzo, introduces them to the 'Blessed Heart Chastity Circle' and senior Alec Bernardi. Alec says he injured the victim, but the senior also brings up a group of pregnant teenage girls, which gives the detectives a new angle on the crime. The detectives must contend with a close-knit and closed-off community and its members' web of secrets to crack the case.
When Rosie Rinaldi is kidnapped, her mother, Liz Rinaldi, sends Detectives Olivia Benson and Elliot Stabler in the direction of her ex-husband, Geno Parnell, a paroled convict. But when Geno's alibi checks out, an argument between Parnell and Detectives Stabler and Odafin Tutola unveils some personal things about Parnell's ex-wife. Parnell comes clean about Liz's father Frank Hagar being a master thief with many enemies. The detectives visit Hagar but soon find out he has Alzheimer's disease. With a little help, the detectives put together clues to help solve the case but need Parnell again in order to find Rosie.
Detectives Benson and Stabler take seven year-old Christopher Ryan in for questioning, after he is caught driving a runaway van. The seven-year old claims his foster parents, Gwen and Noah Sibert are abusive, causing detectives to investigate his allegations. As Detective Benson continues to study the boy's accusations, she recalls a former unsolved rape case involving one Kaitlyn Murphy. Benson uncovers several similarities between the two cases, and with help from A.D.A Kim Greylek, she may be able to solve both cases.
Kelly Sun is found wandering Riverside Park, beaten and raped, with no memory of what happened. Detective Olivia Benson finds out that Sun was on her way to Korea but never caught her flight and, instead, left with an Eric Lutz. Lutz becomes a suspect. Detective Elliot Stabler and Detective Benson search for evidence against Lutz but each of the victims from his videos suffer from memory loss. The detectives must reinform each victim of their attack in order to get the testimony they will need to catch Lutz. Detective Benson is forced to face the fact that she still thinks like a victim and must get the testimony of Laurel Andrews in order to put Lutz away.
Ruth Walker reports that her two year-old granddaughter, Sierra Walker is missing, Detectives Olivia Benson and Elliot Stabler investigate. After rounds of interrogation and a failed Amber Alert, Benson and Stabler believe that the prime suspect is none other than Sierra's young and irresponsible mother, Ashlee Walker.
Eric Byers comes to the squad room, and warns the team about desires he has had towards his younger stepbrother, Cory Kelly. Eric then admits to also looking at websites to try to curb his urge. With no crime committed, yet, the detectives decide to investigate a "self-help" website for pedophiles, which leads them to Jake Berlin. But when Eric goes missing, the detectives must put the clues together to stop Eric before an actual crime is committed.
When Detectives Benson and Stabler arrive on the scene of a single murder, they discover two more dead bodies, those of Tisa Flores and Alejandro Reyes, in the apartment next door. They investigate Tisa's past and find that she was working at a strip club owned by a former Rockette, Birdie Sulloway. Birdie and her nephew Chet try to assist with the investigation, but when the prime suspect for the three murders suddenly dies, the detectives discover a vigilante with a violent past.
Teenager Kim Garnet is found brutally beaten after she sends out nude photos of herself via text message. Detectives Olivia Benson and Elliot Stabler pay a visit to Kim's boyfriend, Steve Walker, but eventually learn that he is not the only recipient of the nude photos. Kathleen Stabler steps in to give Kim advice as she tries to track down the culprit who distributed the photos. But after Counselor Samantha Copeland demands that Benson arrest Kim for producing and distributing child pornography, Kim must face the possibility of life-long consequences when Judge Hilda Marsden hands down an unusually harsh sentence.
A very pregnant Corporal Jessica Crewes disappears from her post as a Marine on the verge of giving birth to her rapist's child. When Jessie turns up dead in the trunk of her car, Navy Commander Grant Marcus tries to take over the investigation from Detective Benson and ADA Kim Greylek. Detective Benson, also a victim of sexual assault, soon realizes that her past may hinder her objectivity with regards to the case. Benson's realization leaves it up to newly appointed Detective Tutuola to find Jessie's killer.
When Pamela Galliano seeks to have a restraining order reinstated against her ex-boyfriend, Tyler Gleason, the assigned judge has something else on his mind. In order for some peace of mind, Judge Koehler asks Detectives Elliot Stabler and Olivia Benson to question a convicted serial killer about the whereabouts of his son's body, which adds a new twist to the case.
