Q&A: 'White Collar' Star Tim DeKay

January 24th, 2012 1:00pm EST
Tim DeKay
There's a whole White Collar promo about Matt Bomer. But it would be criminal to overlook his co-star Tim DeKay, who's equally brilliant and just as important to the show's success.

His character, Special Agent Peter Burke, couldn't be more solid. Peter has a successful job at the FBI and a stable marriage to Elizabeth (Tiffani Thiessen). The role is a perfect fit for Tim, who's just as reliable as his character. He's got a long list of TV credits to his name, including a recent guest appearance on NBC's Chuck, being one of the good things about Law & Order: Los Angeles, and he'll always...

Who Aced The 2010-11 TV Season? (Hint: It's Not NBC)

June 4th, 2011 3:30pm EDT
The Voice
The 2010-2011 TV season is officially over. The ratings are in. If there is one surprise, it’s that last year’s top five shows were all up in viewers this year. With hefty viewer erosion in recent years, that’s nothing short of a miracle.

Most other veteran shows, however, saw a drop-off in viewers. There are some exceptions, however, such as ‘Modern Family,’ which saw very healthy ratings in its second year, particularly in the 18-49 demo.

The stats didn’t change much from last year. CBS won the season in total viewers with 11.6 million. It’s the eighth time in nine years the netwo...

TV Cancellations, Renewals And Shocks, Oh My!

May 14th, 2011 3:04pm EDT
The Event
They’re goin’ down like flies.

This week, FOX tear-gassed its on-the-bubble shows, and NBC and ABC have taken similar approaches. Either pilot season has produced some very promising material, or the networks are getting violent. Either way, there are a lot of casualties.

Let’s start with the good news: Among shows in trouble, NBC’s ‘Chuck’ has been renewed for one more season, but the caveat is that it’s just one more season, and a 13-episode one at that. Still, it’ll provide plenty of closure for fans. NBC’s ‘Parenthood’ was also granted another wish from the network’s genie, with i...

Anatomy Of A TV Season: The Hits & Misses

April 15th, 2011 12:00pm EDT
Kathy Bates
It’s almost May Sweeps, and season finales will be upon us faster than the networks can cancel soaps. Let’s break it down, network by network, of what succeeded – and what flopped – this TV season.

NBC

Let’s start with the weakest network. After the ‘Jay Leno Show’ debacle last season, NBC is still scrambling to find original programming that will net decent ratings.

‘Law & Order: Los Angeles’ has proved a disappointment, as evidenced by its massive overhaul and return to floundering ratings. The comedy ‘Outsourced’ is on the bubble, and shows such as ‘Chase’ and ‘Undercovers’ bombed ...

Revamped 'Law & Order: Los Angeles' Still Underwhelms

April 12th, 2011 2:00pm EDT
LOLA
NBC brought back Law & Order: Los Angeles last night with two all-new episodes. While the series definitely improved, it's a shame that only brought it from unwatchable to passable.

The show decided to bring back some of the hallmarks of the franchise, including an opening narration and title sequence, but they're not great. The theme was so quiet that I had to listen closely to even follow it, not like the distinctive themes from the previous editions, and the title sequence was a slow-motion affair that felt overdone. Both failed to evoke the fondness of their predecessors. And ...

John Stamos To Guest Star On 'SVU,' Not 'Two And A Half Men'

March 4th, 2011 10:33am EST
John Stamos
"Law & Order: Special Victims Unit" will feature three star-studded episodes this spring with actor, producer and musician John Stamos, "Law & Order: Los Angeles" star Terrence Howard and Golden Globe Award-winning actress Lori Singer as guest stars.

Since production on "Two and a Half Men" shut down, rumors swirled that Stamos would replace Charlie Sheen on the hit CBS series.

Oscar, Emmy and Tony Award-winning actor Jeremy Irons and series alum Diane Neal will also return to make a guest appearance in the upcoming "SVU" episodes.

Stamos will appear in the episode titled, "Bang," as an...

Classic TV Comedy Icons: Where Are They Now?

January 28th, 2011 11:16am EST
Hot In Cleveland
In the season premiere of TV Land’s ‘Hot in Cleveland,’ Betty White’s character, Elka, found herself in jail. A slim cell mate who called her “fresh meat” turned around and turned out to be none other than Mary Tyler Moore. The cameo was more a wink at the two icons’ history together, with the characters noting it had been 33 years since they’d seen each other – exactly as long as it had been since Moore and White worked together on ‘The Mary Tyler Moore Show.’

This sequence made me wonder – what are all the iconic TV actors from the glory days up to? Aside from this cameo, Moore re-eme...

Fall TV: What's Surviving, What's Thriving, And What's Dying

November 11th, 2010 10:25am EST
Mike & Molly
We've reached a breaking point in the Fall TV season: almost everything that's still around will likely survive the season (key word: almost). It's becoming clearer which new shows are hits (hint: not many), and there are already several casualties. Let's run down the list.

The already renewed

CBS has picked up all five of their new shows: 'Hawaii Five-O,' 'Mike & Molly,' '@#$% My Dad Says,' 'Blue Bloods' and 'The Defenders.' Each show has performed admirably, but none can be called a runaway hit. CBS, though, has the least holes in its schedule and can be proud that viewership is up ...

November 7th, 2010 10:30am EST
Kathryn Erbe
The man accused of stalking Law and Order: Criminal Intent star Kathryn Erbe has been convicted.

Erbe burst into tears when she took the stand and faced Nagel in court on Wedne...

'Law & Order: LA' Will Save Terrence Howard From Bad Movies

October 6th, 2010 11:15am EDT
Terrence Howard-ALO-097182.jpg
Law & Order: Los Angeles lined up an impressive cast even by the franchise standards. Terrence Howard and Alfred Molina join the newest edition as alternating D.A.s in the standard half cop/half law drama. Howard believes his return to TV will improve his movie career, he told media in a conference call on Tuesday.

“What’s interesting is a couple years ago I was in Toronto and bumped into Reese Witherspoon,” Howard recalled. “She said, ‘You’re doing too many movies.’ So I had to think about what she said and it was true. I was just jumping on whatever I could jump on because I just wanted ...
