6 Things We Wish Had Happened On TV

6 Things We Wish Had Happened On TV
As the Rolling Stones once sang, you can't always get what you want. And so it is for TV as well. For a variety of reasons - network decisions, production demands, behind the scenes developments - sometimes what happens or doesn't happen isn't what we would've wanted. Even though that might have been a good thing, even if we completely understand why, we can't help but wonder 'what if.'

This TV season has had quite a few of those moments, whether it's plot twists that broke our hearts, cancellations we wish we could reverse, or just things we would have enjoyed seeing even if they had no r...

Gordon Ramsay 101: A Primer on TV's Hottest Chef

June 12th, 2012 1:20pm EDT
Gordon Ramsay
With Hell's Kitchen and MasterChef, you're seeing plenty of Chef Gordon Ramsay. If you still don't know who he is, here's a primer to get you informed about the chef with four (!) TV shows.

Who is Chef Gordon Ramsay?

Chef Gordon Ramsay is one of the most talked-about chefs currently working in the world today, and certainly one of the most recognizable. He was the first Scottish chef to win three of the prestigious Michelin stars in 2001 with Restaurant Gordon Ramsay, an establishment that still retains those honors as of 2011. He currently holds 12 Michelin stars.

He is also one of on...

Q&A: Gordon Ramsay Saves More 'Kitchen Nightmares'

September 23rd, 2011 12:00pm EDT
Kitchen Nightmares
I'm in awe of Chef Gordon Ramsay's accomplishments, because I have no idea how he does all of them. The Michelin-starred chef visited in June to talk Masterchef and in July for Hell's Kitchen, chatted with me at FOX's TCA presentation in August, and just yesterday the network announced his next series, Hotel Hell. Just seven months after we talked about the last season of Kitchen Nightmares, he's back again to chat about the new one (starting tonight at 8 PM ET/PT on FOX). The man clearly deserves a vacation.

Ramsay's a polarizing figure: it seems you either love him or hate him. As so...

Brittany's TCA 2011 Blog: 'New Girl,' 'X Factor,' The Future Of 'Breaking In'

August 8th, 2011 8:00am EDT
TCA 2011
It's been seven months since the last Television Critics Association presentation - so now it's time for new buzz. I returned to the front row to catch up with the happenings at FOX and sister network FX. In this first part of my TCA blog, we meet New Girl and The X Factor, the FOX executive session sheds some light on House, Fringe and the Glee spinoff rumors, and I try not to faint.

There's always a surprise or two at these events, and mine happened right off the bat. FOX hosted a breakfast themed around its trio of Gordon Ramsay cooking shows (Hell's Kitchen, Kitchen Nightmares and Ma...

Gordon Ramsay Dishes On Season 9 of 'Hell's Kitchen'
Our favorite chef is back (again)! While we're still watching season two of MasterChef, Chef Gordon Ramsay returns for the ninth (?!) season of his first FOX series, the aptly titled Hell's Kitchen. As the show's two-night premiere kicks off tonight (at 8 PM ET/PT, followed by a new MasterChef), Chef Ramsay sat down with me to dish about what we can expect from this season.

You can also revisit our previous chats about Kitchen Nightmares and MasterChef.

This is the ninth season for Hell's Kitchen. What do you think is the secret to the show's longevity?

Gordon Ramsay: You know what, no...

Summer Preview: 'MasterChef'

June 6th, 2011 5:18pm EDT
MasterChef
In a crowded field of TV competitive-cooking series, MasterChef is not my main course of choice, but it's certainly appetizing.

FOX knows that it's found a personality to build programming around in the legendary Gordon Ramsay, and they've given him three series on the network: Hell's Kitchen, Kitchen Nightmares and Masterchef. One can't help but compare the trio. While MasterChef is far less dramatic than Hell's Kitchen, it doesn't have quite as much heart as Kitchen Nightmares; it's like the love child of the two, with middling results.

If you missed the first season, MasterChef foc...

Interview: Gordon Ramsay On Tackling 'Kitchen Nightmares'

March 2nd, 2011 11:00am EST
Kitchen Nightmares
He is one of the world's best and most well-known chefs. Also, between Kitchen Nightmares (currently in the midst of its third season), MasterChef, and Hell's Kitchen (just renewed for its ninth and tenth seasons), he owns a large portion of the FOX network.

I'm speaking, of course, of Gordon Ramsay, who has not only an illustrious culinary career but has now become the predominant force when it comes to food-related programming in the US and UK. Aside from his FOX offerings, BBC America has run a number of his British series, including the UK edition of Nightmares, Ramsay's Best Rest...

Since the late great Julia Child first signed off "Bon Appetit!" it was apparent that a country that loves to eat might also be entertained by the art of cooking. Network television and cable outlets like the Food Network ran with the premise, creating programming increasingly diverse and interactive over the years. Take that old idea; add a pinch of "Survivor"-style competitiveness, a dash of the challenge and ingenuity of Iron Chef and a heaping helping of reality drama and voila! - A veritable cassoulet of tasty televised cooking competitions now exist for foodie and novice alike. A Look At New, Upcoming Reality Shows

August 29th, 2008 9:00am EDT
Stylista
For years, many TV viewers have been wondering when reality programming will go away. Well, since it's so cheap to produce it has never been likely that competition programming would disappear from the network schedule altogether. After the over saturated summer, such shows appear to be winding down for the fall.

NBC will debut "America's Toughest Jobs" -a cross between "Black Gold" (truTV) and "Ice Road Truckers" (History) - on Monday nights at 9 p.m. Every episode features a different group of people and a different manual labor job, taking corporate drones (or others in comforta...
